hmm guys.... i called my dad (hes in delhi, going out tomo to korea for a tour) he says its fine. just i will to hospital tomo morning first thing and get that 600 rs walla injection. i hope its not painful or doesnt prevent me from typing. cuz a lot of pending work is left.

around 10 years back, i had been similarly bitten by a young puppy in my leg. that was just before i left for a school picnic (i am talking standard 6). i went for the pic nic anyways and took the injection that night. i hv some vague memory of the doctor asking me the condition of the dog (whether it looked healthy and all.) since we couldnt acertain for sure, he suggested i take the injections anyways. but i dont rem if it was criplling painful.

guys... the funny thing is:

when my friend asked..... "so u not gonna bring any bread for the dog tomorrow are you?"

i said "ofcourse, i will bring, it wasnt his fault"

was it?

Hey Karan,

Hi Bro,

Sorry to hear what happened (Good to see your instincts though) ...But here is some info for u...

Pups have a near zero chance (less than a month old) of infecting somebody cause their sliva is not fully established. But you cant deny the chances.

x86 is right at the maximun places. If your wound is huge and blood flow was present, you should see a doc now (even see him if its a small wound...I said earlier too...dont deny the chances). If you can't, go to the doc first thing in the morning as the first rabies vaccination has to injected within 24 hours (but 12 hours preferably). You may have to take a 3 (ya x86...its no 4) or 6 injection course which depends on what doctor says.

But, one thing, for you too x86, u DONT need to be given a anti-titenous injection (tedvac or anything like that) for a dog bite.

And the best Anti-rabbies injection present in india is Rabipur (Company: Aventis) which costs u around Rs 340.00.

Hope this information comes handy.

Not at all.. it is never an animals fault.. he works on instinct and that was a poor cute little puppy. You would be very inconsiderate and irrational if you dont feed that poor soul for teething you.

Lol No... Not his fault too... Little pubs are never at fault...

And Lamer tell your parents... they wont scold you or something... duhhhh... I remeber being btten by a dog (not a pub) once and scared to tell my parents... eventually they got to know by my ever so smart sister and they yelled at me for not telling them...

@Edit Reps to Justin and X86 for leet info...

actually just yesterday there was news on TV about a new shot available for this in India. which claims to be better with no side effects..i will link it when i find that story

while its best to take a shot immediately, atleast with the older drugs, there was a slight side effect problem. A friend of mine got bitten by a cat (it happened to be mine btw) 2 years back and the doc told to wait and watch for me. Basically he said that rabies was not prevelant in the are i was thn and that its safe to wait and watch and then take a shot if there was any alarm. On asking why not take it anyway, he said there are side effects associated with the drug, much like any drug.

ok found the link but this was about something else..

yes this is agn something my doc had mentioned 10 yrs back... the sideeffects, thats why he enquired so much about the dog that had bit me, and just recommend the shots right away.

thnx for the info safin..

update: my dad was glad i told him. his mediclaim will cover the costs so no worries (atleast my conscience stays clean, that my careless action cost him $$$).... he told that i would be given some kind of a imported anti rabies vac, dunno name. told is a expensive one, but only requires 3 shots and is side effect less (hope so, but what side effects are we talking about ?)

edit: sorry x86:

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to x86 again.

No safin...

Rabipur is very safe...with nearly no side effects...

It's only dangerous for pregnent women and people hyper sensitive to PCECA vaccines.

I think all of u people go to http://www.rabies.net. It contains a lot of information.

And ya...CHIRON is the manufacturer, Aventis is the marketeer. Just in case...:)

actuall that 15 year incubation period is a scary tht :S

i never knew it took it so long..

but basicaly, if the animal is ok for 15 days its all right... right?

dude isaw some 1 said tt isnt required , but i beg to differ, plz take tt, y take chances , n its normal protocol in india.

that imported vac must b the recombinant vac i was talkin about i was talkin bout in the earlier post

and just 3 ppl hv survived if i remember correctly , on the record, worldwide after having full blown rabies

well yaa when you are taking anti rabies.. might as well take tt. It will give you peace of mind...if nothing else

i think its 10 .. but might be 15 aint sure. :)
and as fa as i know a tt dose is better. :)

now me getting scared.. lols.. how many times my cat scratched me :ashamed: ahh can remember once no blood though and that was like 7 years back.. not too safe and the doc said no need to take anything :S but thankfully the cat survived for like a year i think.. got killed in a road accident though :O

no now the wounds r divided into GRADE 1,2 ,3. SCRACTH WITHOUT BLOOD COMES IN CAT 1 LOW RISK BUT REQUIRES 3 SHOTS AT TIME 0 , 7 DAY , 14 DAY.

incubation period varies frm 4 days to 15 yrs median being 3 to 8 weeks followin xposure

some consolation.. it was like 10 years back now that i remember

but usually the docs say that 20 days if animal is ok you should be fine...
