THe sony 810 is a benq 1640 rebadge! You get the sony 810 in 2 flavors, the OEM and the RETAIL...OEM for abt 2800 and retail for 3200 bucks. Only cosmetic differences, drive is the same ie. benq 1640! Recommended over the LiteOns.

The last OEM batch of Sony 810s have had some bugs with Moser Baer dvds, so be sure to check that up before you buy!

Buy the Sony DRU810A Internal Dual Layer 16X DVD-RW Drive because it is UDMA-3 and supports DVD-R DL too and Benq DW1640 Internal Dual Layer 16X DVD-RW Drive is not UDMA-3 it is UDMA-2 and does not support DVD-R DL according to February 2006 issue of Digit.

I cannot give a scanned copy as it is copywrite violation.

Sony DRU810A Internal Dual Layer 16X DVD-RW Drive costs between Rs. 3000 to 3500.

The Liteon Super AllWrite SHM-165P65 is also good but I don't trust Liteon anymore as two of their CD Writers which I had got spoilt.
 
The BenQ 1640 doesnt seem to be available anymore in mumbai so had to get a 1650.

Anyone know whats the diff and whether this is a good burner or no?

Good drive, the 1650 is the replacement for the 1640. Buy without hesitation.
Udit, the 1640 does -R DL. Get FW BSLB or newer.
