Probably it could be a bunch of bad media or the lead out is not being done properly by the writer.

This can be isolated by using a different media.

I have just formatted my system and installed a fresh copy of nero 8. I have tried burning the same data thrice but only to waste 3 DVDs. The media is sony DVD-R.It says that the data has been successfully burned.

hmm .. try playing it in another drive and check.. try burning it on that drive also . then u will know whether the media is to blame or your writer is gone kaput

Have you by any chance changed the ISO settings while buring your DVD. changing these settings may men your DVD may not be recognized by the DVD reader despite it having data in it

Tick the option for Verify data after burning while writing the DVD and see if the data is properly written...

Nope nothing is working. I am still burning coasters. Verify data after burning gives a read error. Plz Help. Could it be the fault of the drive ?

happend to me too

common symptoms are

drive will burn all data good

drive will burn all media good

but it will not read(thoght written correctly by itself) media of a certain kind. for me it was dvd-r. so i started to use dvd+r

also it would only boot into cd's not dvd's

no firmware upgrade/driver change,os reinstall can fix this

finally got myself now dvd drive , dirt cheap these days!

ps my drive was sony 18X

Well its a laptop drive therefore a bit expensive , anyways i still have warranty left on the drive ... I hope it will get replaced.

Are making a multi session disc?

coz if u make a multi session disc then there is a possiblity of not running on most of the dvd players
