Laptops DVD writer not Responding in Laptop

My Laptop make is Toshiba Satellite A215.
Last day when I'm inserting DVD writer it is not responding. I don't understand what is the problem as I used the writer Sparingly. Laptop is around 1.5 years old but I haven't used the DVD writer at all. Mostly i burned only 4-5 DVD till now.

I don't understand what is the problem. Please suggest what is the solution and also any idea new DVD writer for Laptop costs?

Also is there any external DVD writer type so I can connect to either Laptop or desktop based on the need?

Since you've rarely used the DVD drive, it might have collected dust on the lens and the tray.

btw when you insert a CD/DVD, do you feel vibrations/hear sounds so as to confirm whether the cd is spinning or not?

If you have a blower(vacuum cleaner) then just blow air around the motor, lens and tray.

My dad's old laptop's drive had also stopped working(used to spin, but didnt read), just cleaned the lens up and started working again.
