Guys I am looking out for a dvd writer and I hae come down to lite-on Model No. Shm-165p6s.I put up in Bombay and would like to know the price of the same and also the best Place to get it from.
I went to a shop in Andheri bit they had SHW-163s

Buy the Sony DRU810A Internal Dual Layer 16X DVD-RW Drive because it is UDMA-3 and supports DVD-R DL too and Benq DW1640 Internal Dual Layer 16X DVD-RW Drive is not UDMA-3 it is UDMA-2 and does not support DVD-R DL according to February 2006 issue of Digit.

I cannot give a scanned copy as it is copywrite violation.

Sony DRU810A Internal Dual Layer 16X DVD-RW Drive costs between Rs. 3000 to 3500.

The Liteon Super AllWrite SHM-165P65 is also good but I don't trust Liteon anymore as two of their CD Writers which I had got spoilt.

^^ SONY DRU810A OEM is 2800/-

Box Pack is arnd 3300/- Box pack comes with changeable front panel (black/white), extra cables etc.

1650 :S DVDrom?

@ Maverick
benq 1640 is better.

Sorry.. DW 1650 :ashamed: That's the DVDRW. Upgraded components, and if it's the same price as the 1640, it's the one to get.

Bezels= changeable front panels, right or wrong? Some of these don't have models don't have data cable which needs to be bought seperately which I guess adds for Rs. 250/- or something like that if I'm not wrong.

You get a single data cable with a m/b if I'm not wrong, which is then used usually for the hdd. Some of the DVD writers do give data cable as well as audio cable, recordable or re-writable media as well as a manual as part of the package. All of this also goes a long way in selecting which writer to buy as otherwise needles expenditure afterwards.

^^LOL only el cheapo mobos come with one. All decent ones come with two. Also the audio cable costs max 50 bucks. The thing that matters most is the write quality of the drive and in that area, benq can't be beaten.

hey udit at which place do you get it for 3000 to 3500
only two weeks back i got the same thing for 2800

Dude, you bought a dvd-writer?

BTW last i enquired, the Sony (with warranty)was 100rs more than the benq1640....

BTW seems they've stopped giving that bus/data-cables along with benq writers..

Now im confued agn.

Sony 810 or BenQ 1650(With LightScribe) ??? (And these 2 are better than the LiteOn Shm-165p6s right ?)

The benq definitely!! And lightscribe media is common too for Rs100 (verbatims) Definitely worth the money for the "WOW" factor alone.

Raghu.

The problem is that my regular comp guy doesn't have BenQ's and that i know no-one in Nehru Place. :( ..

Help plz ....

Are the light scribe discs available in India ?

Also , do we get Dual layer discs in here now ? Last time i checked there were these Taiwanese dual layers for 300 bucks.
