Hi Friends,

I've purchased Samsung P2350 LCD Monitor, unfortunately it did not come with DVI cable. Since this is my first LCD Monitor, I don't have any experience either. Hence, I am confused which cable do I need to get.

As far as I know, I think I should be getting DVI-D, am I correct? Please help me guys, also tell from where and how much would it cost me?

Thank you
Best Regards,
Radeon

Yes, DVI-D cable will work on your monitor as per specs.

You will get it in the range 250-350 in retail shops or on ebay.

Thank you for your reply. I purchased this Monitor for Rs. 11,200/- from SMC International. Though Computer Empire was selling the same for Rs. 10,700/-. But SMC claims there would be no guarantee on the one Computer Empire was selling due to some reasons unknown. However, I have three years on-site warranty on my Monitor.

You said DVD-D cable would cost around 250-350 Rupees. But I am really confused after looking at this below:

Theitdepot - Bafo RA-DVI-DL-2M-V1 DVI-D Dual Link Cable

Do I need DVI-D Dual Link? Thanks again

Best Regards,

Radeon

i bought same more than 1 month b4 from samsun outlet frm NP in 10800 got reebok watch free wid it...

purchased dvi cable locally got samsung 1 in 120 :)

Friends, really enough of reading from past month, just tell me in one liner which one should I get DVI-D Single or DVI-D Dual. From where should I get it, I heartily appreciate your input guys, you all have been of great help.

Dual link = 4 MP, 2560x1600/60 cps

Single link = 2MP, 1920x1200/60cps max.

Dealextreme has the cables with free shipping. Not much difference in price at all, so just get the dual link if you have a dual-link socket on the mobo and the monitor, though both single and dual-link cables will work if you are lower than 1920x1200. If you have single-link sockets, only a single link cable will work. There are 6 missing pins on the single link socket, see below.

@Des: Dual link cable male is not compatible with a single-link female socket due to the extra pins on the male cable-mount plug, and there are a few other considerations.

The imagehost is banned at work so can't see it. But I thought that the DVI female sockets were universal irrespective of the single link or dual link mode?

Refer this pic for a female DVI socket- Link 1

And this one for the DVI male plug - Link 2

The male plug would certainly fit into the socket won't it?

Or is that that the sockets found on displays are different? Perhaps the 30inch Dell that you have has an interface which accepts all DVI male plugs?

^Great so the cable I had suggested previously in the ebay link should work.

Thanks for the input 6pack. :)

The female socket you link to is not a single link socket but a dual-link DVI-I one, scroll a bit down the page to see the image: Dreambox or similar - AVForums.com.

My monitor can take either single-link or dual-link cable, but not the DVI-I type cable with the 4 extra pins. The male you link to is a dual-link DVI-D type cable with the 4 extra pins near the blade missing.

So, 4 types:

DVI-I single

DVI-I dual

DVI-D single

DVI-D dual

DVI-I male is not compatible with DVI-D socket because of the 4 extra analog pins.

In summary:

DVI-D cables will fit a DVI-I socket but not the other way around, and single link cable will fit a dual link socket but not the other way around. It took me a long time to find the right cable to connect a second machine to my monitor, apart from the one that came with the monitor itself...

well i also have a monitor without dvi cable ! its aoc 2236vw ! will the dvi enhance the picture quality in any way ?
I have used DVI & VGA cable on my 19" but didn't find any improvement on DVI over VGA.
it may affect higher resolution monitors.

Thanks for the input 6pack. :)
Desecrator, Are you sure the cable you've mentioned in the link will work with my Card and the Monitor? I'm sorry, I'm new to LCDs, DVIs, since it is my first LCD purchase. Thank you so much for helping me.

:O

I saw otherwise. I have both vga and dvi-d cables connected to my monitor from the graphics card. i noticed marked improvement in brightness/contrast and clarity of the input. vga seems little blurred in front of dvi connection.

Same here. I did notice a difference in the PQ on the same LCD with a VGA and a DVI cable. I used to have my previous Atom rig setup through a VGA cable and my main system through a DVI cable. :P

Noticeable blur and jagged edges when higher resolutions are enabled.

with VGA initially I got the blurred screen but after increasing the frequency(refresh rate), it is same as with DVI.
