e4300 + p5n-e sli OC Help

i know this is repetitive
i just bought a e4300 and an asus p5n-e sli
i also got transcend jetram 800mhz 2gb ( 1gb x 2 )
i am really new to OCing and stuff
so if there is a way to OC them to safe levels for very long durations.. please do guide me there..
i found a lot of threads on the same topic.. but most of them are Over Head Transmissions ( OHTs :D )
ill be really grateful if u can post the link along with ur comments

i OCed it
did all the same settings as in the guide ( voltage.. pci freq etc..)
it ran for arnd 5-6 mins at 2.4GHz..but it was freezing/hanging after a while.. temps was around 49-51 while running orthos..
so im running it at 2.28 and its running fine.. ran orthos for arnd 4-5 hours without any problems.. ( Stress CPU with gromacs core ).. temps arnd 49-50
im on stock cooling..
any particular reasons for it to hand/freeze?

voltage shown in core temp beta 0.4 = 1.3250V ( VID )
voltage shown in CPU-Z = 1.344V
dunno if they are they same.. ive set the volatage in the mobo to 1.33750V which is not the same as both of the above readings
 
the voltages aer bound to differ from the one you set in the bios. your ram is unlinked right ? your temps look good, and it should have not been freezing. may be a more knowledgeable person can answer this.

edit : even try updating your bios.
 
ask some senior member for help , if even that does not help you because i my self am a NOObie :-) to be true.
 
Did you check your ram timing settings are correct for your ram ? eg 5,5,5,15 2T or 4,4,4,15,1T or something similar, check on Transcend website.

Also how hot is it where you are, ambient temps can make a huge difference. Do you have plenty of airflow in your case, and are your case fans giving enough cooling and airflow... or do you have enough case fans?

Absolutely upgrade your bios to latest, this made a huge difference on my evga board's ability to oc e4300

Set the voltages on everything but the ram and the cpu, to auto. (Especially you do not want your NB & SB running hotter than necessary)

If you installed Nvidia ntune, get rid of it.

If you are using stock thermal paste, try Arctic 5 or something comparable, and make sure you are not using too much paste, this is a common mistake. (Arctic 5 has tutorials on their website about putting paste onto cpu's of all kinds)

Do not oc your ram yet, but get a good stable clock on the cpu 1st, then slowly oc your ram only if you want to.

It's a slow process of learning and tuning, it took me over a month of fiddling to get mine to a comfortable and stable place.;)
 
1. update ur BIOS

2. as artful said, Check ur RAM settings..esp the clock rate, if is 1T or 2T..change it to 2T if it is the former..

1)its not put up in the website.. plz tell me where to check
the settings are at 5-5-5-15-2T

2)have plenty of case fans.. 120mm at the back.. front 80mm
i live in bangalore so.. its comparitively cool here.. and it comes nowhere
near sunlight

3)havent put in the new bios or the nvidia ntune

4) since temps are fine.. shud i still replace the thermal paste?

i've got the same problem, it won't OC more than 2.4 ghz.. load temps max out at 54~55 deg. with orthos running for a couple of hours..

will try n update the bios, hope it works :D

Get the latest bios from asus website and upgrade using the asus utility within windows, its really simple

For now you can leave that part

Lower ram speed to 667 or even 533 and then check

Decrease the multiplier to 6x and see if u can increase the fsb and boot successfully

go step by step and fild the max fsb or see if its ok at say 1333Mhz

then follow 200mph's guide and increase the fsb in increments of 5 with multi at 9x say 200,205,210 with vcore at default. See where the system gets unstable with orthos running for atleast 1 hr after say around 5 increments i.e. after even 25mhz jump on the fsb

report back the results here, then we'll see about increasing the vcore :)
 
@terrordrone and sathya..

try keeping the Vcore voltage on AUTO...it works pretty well..it should work..

set the memory voltage on to the default voltage as per the manufacturer..and run the RAM at the rated speed..
 
sathya forgot to reset his OC settings before updating his BIOS
he called me up before i did the same

anyways.. i upgraded my bios to 6202 successfully

@baasha.. wat abt pci-e freq.. shud i run it at 105 or 100?

which of the tests in orthos is recommended?
and which temps shud i post.. one from core temp or from pc-probe ?

Orthos CPU Stress test

Check this link for the testing and all, seems a dual instance of prime95 is better, cant say tho

coretemp is the way to go for temps, although not to worry rearding core temps as long as u r on default vcore
