i DLed the OCCT and ran it for 30 mins
it said stable
then i ran the 3dmark05 to benchmark it.. it hung mid way in the second test :|
temps during the test was arnd 50-51 max and stable... and during the last 10 mins came down to the 40s

wat shud the default voltage be set to? ( sorry i dont remember the value ;) )

there is no default voltage option?? its 1.250 iirc

anyway, 3dmark hung eh, try increasing the pcie to 105 and see if it improves...

if not then increase the vcore a notch and then see,

btw all that is at 2.3Ghz rite?

you should be able to get significantly higher oc's than this. I just downloaded the manual and am looking through bios settings.......

Try this:

turn off CPU Internal Thermal Control

turn off Spread Spectrum - everything

The speed step will throttle the cpu and voltage when idle (helping reduce temps a bit), but once you have stabilized the board (and as long as you are checking these temps while you are tweaking overclocks) you should be ok to turn off Temp Throttling. Just be aware of temps while you are testing for stability, and check temps on load. Once stabilized, it is unlikely that your cpu will cross over final stabilized temps on load.. .or if so by very little.

Sometimes the temp throttling will prevent good overclocks....

will set the voltage to 1.250 and check for stability and then will try 105 pci-e freq

you should be able to take voltages up to 1.3ish.... safely. Since you have a stock cooler... just keep your eye on temps.

One thing to keep in mind, is that this is partly based on my experience with 680i chipset, and evga mboard (which has significantly more bios options for oc's and tweaking)

All information I have read have been very specific about turning off all Spread Spectrum choices, evga has even disabled most of it in their newest bios update.

Interesting info, didnt know that.

Reason I suggested stock volts was to see how much he can do at stock volts and then take it above from there, a step by step approach :)

your right..... it never hurts to be safe :)

Hey just had a thought, are you running most current windows drivers for Nvidia chipset (not gfx card...but chipset drivers) you can download latest drivers from Nvidia's website under drivers for mainboard.

dude what psu you got ? u have not mentioned that any were ? may be thats the reason ?

im running it on nav-tech 530T.. this it supplies arnd 500W. not sure

this board and cpu combination should easily run at 300fsb (2700 mhz) at the least and 333fsb (3.0 gig) on an average. The vcore can go upto 1.375 or higher if you have better cooling.

i have 8 such combinations and all of them except one do 3.0 gig easily. The cooling though is the earlier available Hyper 48's

ahh, i think the power supply is the culprit what are its specs am sure its a over rated psu, and failing in the run.

my experience about nav tech products = NO no .

guess ill have to put in a new one then
i run a 7950gt.. so will need a 500W one..
ive invested a lot on my new comp.. ( getting 22" dell.. thanks to raghu.. :hap2: )
so plz suggest the cheapest and best psu that i can buy.. ill send this back i think

Get the Cooler Master eXtreme 600 for 3.6k

You mean your current PSU is supporting the 7950GT? Amazing....

And yes update all the drivers meaning chipse, display etc, this could be why 3dmark hung up.

its not tat bad a psu.. not as good as the antecs and cooler masters.. but it will gimme around 450-475 i think
i dun have tat kinda money.. 3.6k is a fortune.. im broke after spending on the new comp :(
the thing is.. im waiting for the monitor to arrive. so ill have to switch cpus ;) to do any testing
ill update all the drivers.. and will check

Switch CPU's to do testing?? Didnt get ya

And exactly what is your current PC config? i.e. what you are running rite now while trying to OC, not what you plan to add later.

the new comp ive bought.. is my second one at home..

i have 2 cpus and one monitor.. which requires me to switch cpus

config:

e4300 @2.3GHz ( changed to unlinked and fsb freq and pci-e freq to 105... rest at auto/default)

asus p5n-e sli

transcend jetram 1gb x 2 @ 800MHz

evga 7950 GT KO 512mb

seagate 320GB sata

psu - navtech 530T

dell 22" on the way :hap2:
