We were jolted from our sleep by a massive earthquake tremor at around 4/4:30am. Shook the whole building so much that at moment it felt like it was sure to fall! If the foundation had been a little weak who knows what would've happened. The bed was rocked so hard i felt dizzy. But at first i thought that it was just a dream but soon realized that it was for real! Screams and shoutings everywhere. Dogs were barking with fright like crazy. The whole region must've felt that tremor. I've felt small tremors here and in Delhi but this was my first ever experience of that scale. But my reaction to it was horrible. I was real slow to get up. Thank god i'm safe and sound.
Even now i can hear ambulance sirens wailing. Half of the city's electricity is down.
The news channels might show something.
I need some sleep.

^where do you live? How strong was the tremor? We are sharing a boundary with Myanmar Tamenglong District which seems to be the epicenter of the quake so that must be why it was so strong here. There are some reports of damaged buildings and also there maybe aftershocks. Electricity is back. Its fortunate that it wasn't worse. This state is not go a position to handle such a situation.

Epicenter was in Tamenglong? OMG. That is even nearer!
I live in Imphal (East) which is a valley area. Quakes in the hilly areas would be disastrous. The last time there was a landslide caused by incessant rain the hill districts were all cut off from the rest of the state. Took weeks to clear and repair the roads.
I guess facebook would be the best and quickest source of information right now but I don't use it atm.[DOUBLEPOST=1451891891][/DOUBLEPOST]Well shit got real. On the first page on google.

http://thehindu.com/news/national/earthquake-rocks-north-east-india/article8063948.ece[DOUBLEPOST=1451931500][/DOUBLEPOST]Many people have moved out of buildings temporarily as a precaution. Some of my family members have also packed some stuff in case of an emergency and sleeping on the ground floor. I'm still in my room on the first floor though. Should've got tents in the morning and slept outside. Cant do without tents. Friggin' cold outside. >.<

A friend died when the walls of a school crumbled. Suffered a head injury and multiple broken ribs and couldn't be revived. RIP.
Btw do not believe what the govt says in the media. No relief materials/camps have come from their side till now. And i have no idea how many years it will take for the "compensation" to reach the victims if at all they are compensated. Another sad thing is the national media hasn't done anything beneficial to raise the issues faced by the affected especially in the hills sides.

Really sad state of affairs mate. The Ministry has issued a warning for a strong earthquake in North India as well. I have just moved to Himachal and although I am in a valley region, I am pretty afraid at the moment as well. Need to prepare things like tents, emergency medical kits and food rations.

Shocking news this. Also, the ignorance by the main stream media is very concerning. Have they really fallen to such levels?

Truly these media are concerned only about the TRP's. Even the state media do not report much about the problems in the hilly areas but honestly i'm not surprised (for more please look up "inner line permit manipur news").
And oh, someone please tell Mudiji that tweeting is not an enchantment for help to magically appear out of nowhere. 2lacs compensation? My foot!
And if i have to speak my mind about this earthquake, the effects is much worse than I thought it would be. The very cold weather is making things even more difficult.
@rdst_1 yeah there's a rumor that an even stronger quake of about 8 magnitude may hit the region. At this post even i can say that the world may explode tomorrow. I mean where the hell was the warning before the recent quake? I could rant more but its not going to help. I believe that only some civil organizations and volunteers (my friend was one of them) are lending help for now.

Also, the ignorance by the main stream media is very concerning.

They did the same with Chennai, it was only after it was trending on twitter for 2 days that they realized how grim the situation was. For most of these so called National news channels, the country begins and ends with Delhi. They didn't even cover the riots in Malda and Purnia.
Not to mention the cringeworthy coverage of the Nepal quake that is still fresh in our memories, those TRP whores made a spectacle of their suffering and were one step away from picking up a spade to show how dedicated and concerned they were.

the country begins and ends with Delhi
LOL. Funny because its true. No other city/state gets as much attention as Delhi. That place is the epicenter of all kinds of drama.

Second quake of the year. Reports say 6.8-7.2 magnitude. Epicenter was somewhere in Myanmar. Pray that was the last one.
