Not just that, it depends entirely on your personality. In all the years that I've lived in the US, I've observed that most Indians (not all, but an overwhelming majority) stick with fellow Indians only. Even if a whitey or Afro-American comes along to talk or chat, they stutter, walk away or just plain ignore which doesn't really reflect an easy going personality. Perhaps it is our intrinsic nature to be shy/reserved/whatever but the ones that don't suffer from this problem (including yours truly) have made tons of great white & black friends over the years. Same goes with Indian females - they rarely talk with their Indian male counterparts, let alone whites or blacks. All this makes it easier to go out/date white/black women while Indian women stick with fellow Indian lady colleagues.

You've pretty much nailed it. The more conservative you are the less you mix.

Haivng said that my cousins were pretty similar to what Nikhil said they're not exactly conservative at all. But it gets better not only do they stick with their own countrymen , its more ppl from the same place in the country. So you live abroad but your friends are from the same city or state, most likely to be school as back home.

I made it a point NOT to hang out with desi's when i was abroad.

I guess it's possible. But I've seen it happen to a LOT of my friends who have moved there in the past 2 years. They end up with Indians only.

Of course, I'm a little bit fixated on this point because for me, going abroad to study doesnt mean only the campus, facilities, etc.... It also means the people I study, work and play with. If I'm spending tens of lakhs of rupees, I would like to get to interact with people from a completely different background and know about their lives, their childhood, etc....etc....

Anyway, we are going OT.

Yeah, your friends are just a bunch of introverted pussies :P Dont blame it on the host country. Its your choice to make friends with people of different cultures. Nobody prevents you from talking to ppl of other cultures. Paying lakhs/crores doesnt matter at all. A lot of the Americans/Europeans are willing to accept Indians in their circle of friends. Quite a few of my Indian cousins are married to Americans, Australians, Thais, Japs and all sorts of weird mixes. They did face racism, they did find friendship and love.

On another note, whats wrong with washing ones own clothes and cleaning toilets? Bunch of turds, thinking they get better quality of life in India because they can employ someone for cheap to do it for them.

I think the US is a great, welcoming place for Indian expats and you should try going there. They will be delighted to have an over-qualified individual like you amongst their ranks and they might even elect you president! Also, the rumours about maid servants, high cost of living, african americans beating you up and stealing your wife, are all untrue.

Welcome to the land of the free baby. Hot damn!!

@l33t, it's so good to see the fine arts of "Trolldom " in practice here at TE. Thank you very much. With your last comment you actually made me LOL.

this thread is going nowhere, might as well close it and go back to our sorry lives and take all the bs as it comes along and continue whining on an online forum..

^^ Yep, a friend a hard time getting a visa, as she was young and unmarried :P

And Leet has a point, without education or work exp. making a living outside India is a hell. I will be damned if you actually think Bangalore's climate is bad, I found it one of the best in India..

And saving money in the gulf countries is a PITA, a night out in Dubai is outlandishly expensive... I feel the only country apart from India where Indians can live peacefully & happily is the US.

The easiest option for a BCOM grad to get a decent job elsewhere is get a CFA (CFA Institute Home )certification (will take you 2 years if you clear in one go) and in the meanwhile, try to get some experience in the finance/accounting field. Education is the only advantage Indians have...

Sorry, I completely disagree with you on that point. In the US, it's a herculean task to save more than $2K pm (or about 7.5K UAE dirhams). I saved well above 12K dhs every month during the 11 odd months that I was in Dubai. I bet I could save almost 15k in the current situation because the rents in Dubai have fallen by as much as 5-6K dhs/month. The money is just so much and the best part is that it's tax free. Plus, there are very little carnal distractions that make you want to spend money. In the US, the EMIs on most cars is a lot higher, the monthly expenses for eating out every night are almost twice that of the UAE and then there are forms of entertainment in America that you just don't get in the UAE, thereby saving even more moolah in the Gulf state.

I fully concur with you on the last statement though.
