EBay India -- Feedback Attitude

I spoke to an old alumni from my college who is now a dealer on eBay. He has 120 or some ratings, all 100%. He told me all about the ebay trading system. He has 100% feedback till now and is hell bent on maintaining it.

He told me all about how eBay doesn't listen to the seller's point of view. At all. And he also told me that community courts don't always fall in favor of the seller. Of course, there might be 5 cases in a 100 where they voted in favor of the bad guy, but it is a whole lot better than trying to get your money back from a seller who has no accountability at all.

He told me one sale where he sold something worth Rs. 750 to some lady in Bangalore(He is based in Mumbai). After a few days, he notices that she left him negative feedback with a message "Freebies mentioned not given". Apparently, eBay had some offer that time wherein they were giving freebies with a purchase. The small font read something like "For purchases of Rs 2000 and more". She obviously didn't read that and could not fathom how eBay and a seller could work separately. She refused to help him to remove the rating.

He went to eBay and explained to them. They said that they understood the case and sympathized with him, but were helpless since the users gave the rating and only a community court verdict could help him. Finally, he got the -ve rating removed.

There are bad apples in every lot. However, with the recent changes in eBay and so much accountability, I wouldn't mind spending Rs 100-500 more just for the peace of mind.

@Sandy - This is bound to happen. IIRC, there was a case here where a TE member had ordered for IEMs but got tea bags instead. Since he had "received" the package, it is difficult to prove otherwise. Since you had accepted the package, it's the same issue here.

I think that was with mp4nation. Someone ordered the S:Flo2 and got chinese tea instead.

The reason why sellers beg for 5 star ratings is that some people may give them 4 stars as most people dont usually give full marks for everything. A 4 star rating is like a bad rating for ebay sellers.

So thats the reason they beg/threaten for a 5 star rating. :)

Are there deals available where shipping has to be done 'next day' on Indian EBay..? Sorry for the ignorance but I never saw any such, though am just a small time EBay shopper..? :) What was the EBay shipping span quoted by the portal..?
i've done many purchases on ebay & more than 90% of the times the item is shipped the next day & in some exceptional cases the one day after the DOP.
my point is the seller should not ask for 5 star ratings & positive feedback, they should focus on their service like shipping items ASAP,using better courier company & so on.

^^

Actually my point was, does EBay ever display "too be shipped by" = day of purchase + 1....which most people want and/or call up the seller..?

^Ebay does display too be shipped earliest by D-M-Y usually seven days from the payment confirmation date(Check My Paisapay tab). After shipment details ten days for delivery dead line.

if you didnt receive the item how can you file a item not as described option ? What I had done was mark item as received and then immediately filed the item not as described.

ebay judges list is not available. the person doing the filing files his views, and the person who is the counter party gives his. Within 10 days you get the verdict, god knows how.

Yes you are spot on. Then how can people demand next day delivery...!

:) They have to wait for the last date to expire.

Just Sharing my experience here.... which was not so good..

I bought a samsung mobile from ebay 6 months back. In the description it was written as sealed pack. The mobile box I received was open and with a charger missing. I contacted the seller and she assured me that the charger will be sent in couple of days. After waiting for around 10 days, I left a -ve feedback for the seller.... The seller contacted ebay court and I was asked for a clarification for -ve feedback. I did provide them the reason for the -ve feedback but to my surprise the -ve feedback was removed by ebay for that seller....

Well, if that is true then it sucks imo for both the buyers and sellers. The accountability part should be restricted to the negative/neutral feedback; the 5 star rating should only be a guideline. Eg if two sellers are selling a product at nearly the same price then I'd prefer to go with the one with better ratings. Also how else would you separate a seller who barely makes the shipping and delivery dates with one that gets you the product over a weekend. The avg. requirement of 4.1 or 4.3 is way too high... its like an exam where you have to get A grade or fail :D

It seems that EBay wants to show buyers that there are strict and formal mechanisms in place to safe guard them. But the way -ve ratings can be revoked -- it is hardly doing much good. If the Community Court is composed of sellers, then its quite close to a kangaroo court.

I agree with OP 200 %

community court is one of the worst & funniest place I have ever seen.

Purchased iPhone case worth 1000 Rs.. Seller never bothered to update me, After few days I automatically got refund. I left neutral feedback saying inspite of not having item seller has listed item 5 times.

This guy went ahead & filed in this community court.. Crap & they removed the feedback.

Again this guy has listed iPhone case for 5 times, Purchased again & now he is back saying he does not have it. If I leave neutral feedback again he will go to this community court & make sure he removes.

What the hell is use of giving feedback then ? Any solutions ? I am really fed up of this seller.

^^^ don't worry there are also restrictions for sellers if certain percentage of paisapay transactions gets refunded due to stock unavailability etc. they can't fool around much with listing unavailable items. many sellers don't know this actually.

Once i purchased a cheap china mobile from ebay..and the dealer mentioned "Give us 5 star rating to get the 6 months warranty" !!!
I was like WTF?! How the bloody can they link warranty to the rating?

Most people mentioned that valid neutral or negative ratings got revoked. Any one got an instance where it actually stayed....?

^^ My personal opinion, it will be removed because the jury members are mostly sellers ;)

I ordered one item, scheduled to ship in 20 days, he sent shiiping details on 20th day, scheduled to deliver in next 10 days,

I was following up with courier company and they said they do not have any such shipment. I called the seller and he said go for a refund, I was like WTF. I left him a negative rating which went to community court and they as expected REVOKED it. DOn't know why the heck this is there at first place,

^^

Am sure many of them glean forums like this to get information. Hope they bump upon this candid feedback. Though still waiting for a testimony where a neutral or -ve rating was sustained by the court.

^^ eBay management will never take care whatever feedback you send, they have there own policies and system. I would say stay away from eBay as a seller and avoid big order to strangers. They have worst Paisapay and eBay buyer protection, visit eBay community forums to see the truth. I have been user of eBay since it was bazee.

Duh,

After they removed my -ve feedback, I tried my best to find this so called Community court. They take your reply to rating, Seller's reply to rating (Which you never see) & in 2-3 days feedback is gone.

lol, I thought this court thing will be some forum where they discuss everything like TE :)
