Hi Folks,

Prompted by the recent power tariff hikes, I am trying to make a comparison of the electricity consumption charges for domestic consumers of all the states in India.

It would really help if folks from different states could post their respective states tariffs in the following format,

State State Name Slabs and Tariff Units slabs and respective tariffs Billing Cycle Monthly / Bi-monthly etc. Source Information Source

Advance thanks to all.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but does the table imply that if you consume 99 units you pay Rs 119, but at 101 units you pay 171.5

Similarly, for 199 units you would pay 228.5 , but for 201 units you pay 433

yes its like that only.. higher the consumption higher the cost

That's wrong. It is slabwise. So if it is 101 units, you pay 100 for the first 100 units, and 1.50 for the extra unit. All this plus 20 is the total cost = 121.50

^ Actually no. Check the PDF -- http://www.tangedco....vtariff-new.pdf

If its above 200 units you have to pay 1.5 for the whole thing.

exactly

Yes thats correct and the real problem here is that the billing is bi-monthly so almost everyone crosses 500 units with the new tariffs if you consider even 9 units usage a day (and for 500 units the bill amt is 1330 and for 501 it is 1845.75)

you lucky guys. see my bill and feel even more lucky.

Add to this a bonus of 5 - 6 hrs load shedding every day. Billing cycle every month.

1st 30 units -> 2.20/- per unit

next 70 units -> 3.40/- per unit

next ( I've used upto 37 units only ) -> 4.50/- per unit

Fixed charges -> 95/- for me till now

Did this thing change recently? I remember it used to be a slab based calculation about 2 years back.

Yes this change is from the 1st of this month (Apr, 2012).

Because of this new tariff, consumers here are asking for a monthly billing cycle because with bi-monthly cycle almost everyone cross 500 (or cross at least 300 units). However the EB are giving excuses of manpower shortage, longer queues etc. So I think an ideal solution might be to have bi-monthly cycle but do the calculation on a per month basis so that both the EB and domestic Consumers can be happy.
