Yes Beat AP Electricity tariff. The reason told by the govt was the coal and labor charges were increased. They also told they have purchased power from other plant but still power cuts of about 2hour. Luckily inverter saves my sleep.

Bumping this up. MSEDC has hiked electricity charges to new higher rates for Maharashtra. You lucky Mumbai guys on Tata or Reliance power dont have to worry though.
New rates per month (the other charges like meter rent etc are same):
BPL consumer - 0.76 per unit
0-100 units - 3.36 per unit
101-300 units - 6.05 per unit
301-500 units - 7.92 per unit
501-1000 units - 8.78 per unit
1001+ units - 9.50 per unit

the previous rates are a few posts back.

TANGEDCO - TN is fairly cheap for electricity. Reliability was decent till last year. Recent times have been horrible though.

The tariff structure is a bit complicated. As long as you dont exceed 500kWh for 2 months, the rates are very cheap. If you are even 1kWh over that, then you lose the Govt. subsidy completely - this causes a discontinuity in the consumption-cost graph. The highest rate for energy is Rs5.75/kWh.

Any of the electricity providers have feed-in tariffs or net metering for solar installations?

BESCOM supply has been good for the past year or so. It was horrendous prior to that - up to 6 hours of power cuts in Bangalore during summer.

BESCOM Tariffs are quite high.

Apart from the energy billing, BESCOM also charges for peak power consumption. Any other electricity supply company charges for peak power? Running a 3kW heater means a minimum bill of Rs90. Im very careful not to run many other appliances when using the heater, so that I dont fall into the 4kW category and pay Rs35 more.

For instance, my monthly consumption is ~100kWh. My bill is ~Rs315 for energy, Rs95 for 3kW of peak power + Rs20 (5% Tax) = ~Rs430 Total.
