Finally, we get an ebook reader with a decent display resolution. The iRiver Story HD is releasing on the 17th of this month, in 2 days, and it's the first 6 inch reader with a resolution of 1024*768.
Should make reading a lot easier, especially pdfs, though the early review says it has issues with zooming pdf files.
It supports all the popular formats, and while it's not very pretty, it's above average in the looks department.

Baring any glaring issues, this is the ereader I'm going to buy. Can't wait for some more reviews!

Some glaring holes, and not in the plot: hands-on with the iriver Story HD

Nice.. the display looks like a winner. Good thing I haven't yet placed an order for the Nook Simple Touch. I guess I'll go for this instead.

available in India?

The good:

HD screen allows for crisp text, and lots of it

Body is thin and light

Storage is expandable

Page-turning button is positioned well

The bad:

No headphone jack

No annotating or highlighting passages

Line spacing, font, margins are not customizable

The ugly:

Brown? Really?

Searching within books: you can't do it

is it a touch screen like the Nook touch, from the pics it looks like it has buttons. I just got the Nook touch a week ago and I can confirm the touch screen makes a huge difference in using the device compared to the Kindle 3. It also makes it lighter, smaller and less bulky. A higher resolution display will be nice though.

This one is not a touch. A touch screen with high resolution would be great. But right now, we can't have both together. Honestly, I don't like the physical keys..

Reportedly Sony is also planning a refresh in its ebook reader lineup , lets see what they get.

I need atleast

1. 7-inch eink 1024*768 bw

2. touchscreen

3. wifi

4. usb

5.proper software support for pdf and epub (and mp3 for audiobooks w/ a 3.5-jack would be bonus)

6. under $200

I hope we get one such reader this year itself

^ + better handling of the PDF with images (and PDF prepared with scanned images) would be helpful.

Not sure, such a reader would appear any time soon :(
