Heh, if spain play like this against germany they will, to borrow an expression, get raped.

Germans were at their best against Argentina. Cant expect them to be at their best all the time and considering Spain weren't at their best against Paraguay , it even things out

ohh....Why they had to play so boring in first half? I slept watching match and TV was ON all night.

Bergkamp was good, not the best. Seems like he is Bergkamp fanboi.

I am Gerrard Fanboi and for me he is the BEST player in world.;)
 
Anyways, Muller will miss the semi-final match as he got a yellow card following a handball. Still Germany is on their top notch.

This is the perplexing thing, they've been their best three times now and the only time they lost was against Serbia when then were a man down. Still they ended up playing better than the Serbs. Klose is important to them.

Argies could not do well because Germans cut off the supply to the strikers, the blocking happened at the midfield level and continued onwards. The other bit is that when they could not hold it back Argie strikers could never get close enough to score. All shots on target were from distance and rather weak or when they were harder they missed the target entirely because German defenders never conceded a free kick close to the box, Mertesacker is the main guy here.

The whole german strategy was to steal possesion and win with a fast counter attack. Argie defense was weak, as was the english one. Germans conceded very few goals and they kept on scoring. Once the two went in the other team just crumbled or gave up and they got a cpl more.

I'm not sure, maybe Spain will go negative and defend stronger and only put a cpl of players upfront.

If the Nork's could do it against Brazil ( who also like to counter-attack) and only concede 2 then Spain could have a chance to push it longer, thing is they won't be able to finish the job in match time and then it goes to penalties and Spain won't win that.

Best would be to hold onto possession in the first half and then try to score in the second half. Spain is good with possession, can dictate the game and frustrate the Germans into chasing them. They have to break their rhythm and not allow them to score for the first half otherwise they will end up like the others.

Germany's wins were against teams that have an attacking style, how will they do against one that does not play that way ?
 
Since 1962, the World Cup has been won alternately by a South American country and a European one. Looks like this trend is about to be broken. Uruguay is the only South American team in the semis and it looks highly unlikely that they will progress any further. Germany seems to be the strongest contender going by their performance so far.
 
Germans played like champs against both England and Argentina. And they have scored big against both. Now they have to face Spain. I think they had the toughest route to semis.
 
Spain will need some more magic from Villa if they are to topple Germany. If he has a off day, they are in trouble. Their 5 out of 6 goals have come from Villa if I am not wrong.

It will be extremely difficult game for them unless something really unthinkable happens.

Also I dont think dutch will have it easy in their match as well. I have a feeling Uruguay will sit deep and will rely on counterattack. But they are relying heavily on Forlan without Suarez now.

About the teams that got knocked out, I knew Germany can beat Argentina, but I honestly didnt think they will be steam-rolled like this.

As far as Brazil goes, I honestly didnt think they had a team to go all the way this time around. Dunga went soft with the team selection.

Out of Pato, Adriano, Ronaldinho and even Ronaldo, they needed at least 2 of these 4 in team. they might not be youngest, or in best of forms, but they needed to be in the team ( at least on bench to come on when needed ).

BTW did anyone else notice that only Germany is all home squad. All players are from German clubs, and all coaching staff is also German :P

Yes, and that means if he's marked then Spain have nothing. Villa will not have an off day, Germans will ensure he never gets the ball or if he does then suffocate his attacks. The one good thing is Villa does not need 10 chances to score, a cpl should be enough. They should not let Torres start for them next game, he's not been at his best, better to go with Fabregas or Llorente.

I cannot see the Spaniards pulling it off given their performance with Paraguay, yet this was the team that beat Germany in the 2008 Euro finals so can lightning strike twice ? won't be Torres this time tho.

Maybe the Dutch with their mind games :)

Yeah park the coach in front of the net and use something like 5-4-1 but then all the Dutch need is 1-0 to win. The Uruguayan team is quite decimated without Suarez or their defender captain Lugano plus suspensions, a third of the lineup cannot be used. Abreu will come in but he did not produce much (penalty excepted, they call him loco which means crazy as he did the same thing in the american championship as well). The other thing is if they lose they get to play an extra match for third place and Suarez will be able to join them. Outstanding result for a country of just 3 million (!).

They gave up after the second goal. You could say if they can induce another team to do this then the defeat is near total. Of course the argie stars could not acept it as they were used to winning and they did for every match they played in the WC.

Dunga getting blamed now because the team are defeated again. Players you mentioned did not fit into Dunga's philosophy of defensive playing, Ronaldinho is an artistic player, the Brazilian style of old. Well the French (thanx to Zidane) cut them up totally in the last cup, one which they were holders and this new way of thinking started in the Brazilian camp, forget looking good just defend well then try to score & win.

I'm not sure if you can change a culture overnight like this, the African teams are facing the same charge that this sort of disciplined play interferes with their flow.

The other reasons are they are young so not really caught the eye and the older guys don't seem to be too good outside the WC team, Klose had a miserable season. They've not had a reason to go with foreign coaches as since the last twenty years (last time they won it) germans have not had bad results to warrant it.

I suspect you know this already, and the real reason for mentioning it is that you think introduction of IPL will lead to weaker national team performance like with the English in the WC ie bigger loyalty from players to league play as it pays better than the national team.

If so the counter is very easy, we have twenty times more ppl here so there will be a larger talent pool to draw from. If there are more opportunties to play more will get into the sport, win-win. Course it will challenge the generation that grew up with internationals and they will knock it as crass commericialism but there's also a new generation now that does not know that.
 
Germany will win against Spain, they are playing well together as a unit and are not depending on a single individual to perform.Argentina did not have any strategy and were completely out of the game. Messi was a disappointment and the defenders were clueless and the Germans were all over them.

Guess now they will understand that a star player cannot be a star coach. Also just by making noise on Messi and going ga ga over his game did not land them anywhere.He may be the player of the year but if he is not capable of scoring even a single goal in a do or die match its pathetic.
