File sharing sites blocked by department of telecom!

Update 21/7/11: There have been some more findings regarding the issue, and it just seems to be a technical issue. MTNL had the same problem which is now resolved. The issue is resolved for many Airtel broadband users from Delhi. While on the other hand, Mumbai’s Fivenet is now facing the same problem from a few minutes, this is chaos gentlemen. :D
its just a technical issue in airtel and relaince so dont need to worry about it and Downloads Continues Dont Panic :clap:
 
Update 21/7/11 #2: Reports are coming in that the issue has been completely resolved, and the sites mentioned above now open on Reliance, Airtel, MTNL and Fivenet – no other ISP had any type of complaint about any kind of ban. Airtel, Reliance as well as DoT has not commented anything on the issue yet.
 
^looks like I tried accessing mediafire earlier and got the blocked by Dot message which isnt there now
 
Why do I have this annoying splinter in my head that tells me this was a test run and really not a 'technical glitch' as it is being made out to be? Selective websites not working, DoT warning screens... all this a 'technical glitch'?:no:

Mediafire working fine now on idea, i think the test run was successful and this may return in future.
 
I love torrents too. However on what basis will you fight that we are not allowed to download pirated movies :) seems like a bad idea and ditto for porn :)

On the basis of file sharing in common. I am sure these websites must be hosting linux distros and all too right ? Or not ?
 
their are legal files also uploaded on these sites.

regarding content,we are leaving in free society and not some delusional society where we are dictated what we can do and what we can not.

suppose i need to share somehuge file which is not going to fit in email.

what do i do?

Here,its about freedom of internet and freedom of users which ISP's cant decide for themselves.
 
Its not a technical glitch for sure. In all probability it was a pilot run and have high chances of being implemented not because DOT has suddenly developed some moral sense but because of lobbying by our "great" ISP's.

BTW, on what basis can the government put a blanket ban on file-sharing websites? They are used for legitimate large volume file distribution as well.

Good point. You see, pirated movies and porn are not the only things that Rapidshare et al are used for. Most Indian programmers who have jobs working on Microsoft Technologies (VB, VC, C# etc.) and try to keep themselves updated with the latest version will agree with me. Also, on those lines, think about the OS running on your computer(in case, its made by MS). :)
 
OT: Btw what is a JOHN DOE order. Curious because i have just started watching John Doe TV series.

Ignore above query...got the answer from that post itself.
