I've gone with the USB since my el cheapo G31 motherboard does not have a optical nor a coxial out.

Is there any way to configure the DX as a pass through and use its optical out ?

There are DACs based on the USB 2.0 standard. Not sure how it differs from though.

Less jitter (in theory). Tho to get a DAC that does it properly is quie pricey. As time goes on more should suport it and the price will drop.

E-MU-0202 is one such device.

That's quite an old card so i doubt it would be USB2.

Yes. The DX has a 3.5mm to Toslink adapter bundled. But there's no point of having a sound card when you intend to transmit the digital signal to another DAC. The signal would remain untouched anyway.
