i don`t think PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition will be a good choice. better go for avast, i personally use it and i am 101% satisfied with it.

+1 for Avira. Using Avira Antivir Personal for quite some years on personal laptops in Vista and 7, no problems to-date.

As for my PC, I only use Spyware's resident protection [very old Athlon64 PC] No problems yet.

The one reason I don't use Avira Free is that it doesn't provide scanning for email clients like Outlook, Windows Mail, etc.

I've been using Avast Free for a while. It's great and the new version is quite slick. Just renewed my free subscription today!

I have used AVG in the past for a few years and I found that their scanning wasn't very effective.
