Six Axis. That's the official name for the PlayStation 3 controller. :D

Sony announced today its first accessories for the PS3, and included in the announcement was the name for the new Dual Shock. With the controller no longer featuring rumble, most expected the new name to do away with the "Shock," and sure enough, the final name of "Six Axis" reflects the motion-sensing abilities of the device.

Every PS3 will ship with one controller standard, but those who want multiplayer play will need to pick up an extra device. Sony also announced today pricing for extra controllers. In Japan, extra Six Axis controllers, model number CECHZC1J, will retail for 5,000 yen. This is a step up from current Dual Shock controllers, which tend to retail for just under the 3,000 yen mark. Converting to US dollars, the 5,000 yen price is approximately $40, although actual regional pricing tends to differ somewhat from direct currency conversion.

Sony also revealed today a few new bits about the controller. Each controller will have a Lithium Ion battery built in. You'll be able to connect to the PS3 via USB to charge the battery, with a single charge lasting 30 hours. It's unknown if Sony will be including a USB cable with the controller.

This sucks. Nowadays console makers seem to have totally forgotten two player games, and as a result, think it is OK to ship with a single controller.

Built in Li-ion batteries are bad. They are probably going to be proprietary, and replacing them will be expensive and difficult (a la iPod batteries when they first came out... I don't know of the current situation).

My SNES bought way back when also came with just one controller. Same for the PS2.

Well I don't know how the hell you got one controller, cos when I bought my SNES I got two. And b4 that I had bought a sega mega drive (1) and returned it cos I didn't like it, and it had two as well. And my friends, who bought PS1 all had two controllers. As did the N64....

Maybe in India, they sold 1 controller shit, everywhere else at least they sold two. Hell, SNES's major games (DKC series) all required two controllers to take advantage of the major game playing mode (two player team)

i got a ps1 last time from singapore with one controller only .. had to buy the 2nd one

KingKrool, As far as I can remember, consoles have always come standard with one controller only. The second one always had to be bought seperately.

I searched up online. Apparently both options were available (single or double controller). So where I lived, the double controller options were popular.

That's unfair. I always ended up with only one controller with all my consoles including my SNES.

The way I see it. Console manufacturers always provide you with only the bare essentials needed to play the videogame. Which is why even though secondary memory was incredibly important, it had to be bought seperately with the PS1, PS2 and GC.

Hardly unfair - the dual controller packs were more expensive, and generally came with a game (which you had to pay for).

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. And no one has eaten Sony's brand new freshly baked pudding yet.

Oh.. well its the same Old Daul shock na ,,,, only the name Has changed and the Shock  Has Gone ! Otherwise its the same Thing , except for maybe the Motion sensing which wont be used in many games anyway !

Clearly it's the Six axis cause Sony rules our lives, right Bluffy?

well its not that I am a Fanboy of sony or something , Its Just that I find the Placement of analog sticks is Much Better in Daulshock ! Yes I do Own a PS2 and Yes I do Love it :D but its Ultimately the Gamng experience we r all Looking for , isn't it ? so if by any Chance sony screws-up This Time , its Gonna be Buy buy sony and welcome 360 :D for me !
