First Google pulled their stunt with a constant increasing maximum space for Gmail accounts. Then Yahoo countered with unlimited space. Right away, I said the web e-mail war would turn to attachment size. Now, it has, and boy am I happy for competition.

Just like last time, Google is taking the initial step. Google has doubled their maximum attachment size per message from 10MB to 20MB. However, it won’t be long before Yahoo and Microsoft will grudgingly respond and break the 10MB standard. It should be noted that until then, few mail providers will accept such a big message, unless the receiver is paying for it.

Heh...Lycos already offers 20MB attachment size way before GMAIL did, also with Lycos there is UNLIMITED attachment size if you are using Internet Explorer (the reason being that an ActiveX control is needed for this). Attachments over 20MB in size are delivered as RapidShare type download links, so there is no worry of the mail not being received. ;)

thing with gmail is tho, that doesn't let u send executables, not even compressed

and even compressed + encrypted rar's dont go

@deepak thts y i said include the "one liner" at the end stating after u download the file rename the file with .exe at the end or watever....

@deepak

totally agree wit u.... sometimes it can be a real pain.... such a simple thing and they think its as complicated as fabricating a cpu....

Nice feature ... but msn and yahoo wont accept attachements above 10mb so only useful for gmail users

Don't know why but Gmail & MSN just don't appeal to me. I mean I know I have accounts there but yuckie yuck yuck! Yahoo for Yahoo! :P

Yes, but there are so many people with gmail accounts... (most of my friends use gmail) that it is not so much of an issue :tongue:

anyway if u guys need to ... there is always rapid share and similar ;)

Gmail has increased it's security for attachments... so changing the name of an .exe doesn't always work anymore :( I just tried to send someone (not a very computer savvy person) a .rar self extracting.. I tried everything even zipping up the .exe and changing extension... but it still wouldn't work... a royal pain.

this actually came just in time, had to send a PDF of 11 MB yesterday ASAP didnt have to split it and send 2 attachments

what a stroke of luck
