Graphic Cards GPU Advice

Hello guys, I am planning to upgrade my graphic card. I play on 1440 x 900 resolution but plan on upgrading to a 1920 x 1080 monitor in the future. I am currently using a non-overclocked Sapphire ATI HD4850. Now this graphic card suits all my gaming needs at my current resolution FPS wise. I am not really upto date with the new array of graphic cards that nVIDIA and ATI has released, and have no idea how the model nos. are working now. So, question is should I go for a MSI R6770-MD1GD 1GB GDDR5 or a MSI Cyclone OC HD6850 1GB GDDR5 PE or some nVIDIA card?, keeping in mind that I maybe upgrading my resolution and also keeping in mind that need a graphic card which is equivalent performance wise to an ATI HD4850 at 1440x900. I tried doing a research on my own but couldn't get too many useful reviews.

Thanks for all your input, love this community!

Stick to your GPU right now. It would easily still play 1440x900 for a some more time. Save the money and buy a GPU when you upgrade your monitor. You will have better options then.

Yes Sire, wait for AMD Southern Islands [HD 7000 series], they promise a lot of features to look forward too [28nm fabrication / optimized VLIW 4 architecture / better thermals and power consumption stats].

Also unlike AMD Bulldozer muck-up in the release dates these are locked in ~late September -- early October hard release window, with stable numbers hitting the market ~December, this will bring the price of current generation cards further lower and performance is trusted to be at-least ~20-25% higher across the board.

The rumoured specs of the upcoming AMD GPUs are too juicy. If they are true you could be getting a Radeon 6970 class GPU at 120 W power consumption, and a Radeon 6950 class GPU at 90W!

Standard HD 78** graphics card will still feature GDDR5 memory + better optimized VLIW architecture -- VLIW 4 from VLIW 5, not the NGC architecture OR XDR2 memory but still a compelling buy for fellow mates, who have held onto HD 5*** and earlier generation cards.

Hope this helps, Sire. Cheers!!

Dude i am on a 23" Full-HD and on-board HD4250. Your on 1440x900 and Dedicated HD4850. See the difference :p So, If i can wait why not you. As suggested above manage to stay on your current config and when the hd7k Series are out, go for those. Till then stick to 4850 and rather than gpu upgrade to a full-hd. I think HD4850 will still handle quite a games at this Resolution.

Dont wait for the next next next.....
I was waiting for the good budget PC when 5770 & i5 760 was launchD. It launched & out of my reach ! Then i sold my old PC !
As & when above config become affordable for me THEN i started wait for 2nd Gen intel i5 & ati 6*** ! And now am getting suggestions to wait for BD & E ! Now i still have bare hands !
I become the matter of fun for my frindz.
One thing i convince here " am fool & stupid , am too much into reviews and benches !"
this wait phenomn dont let me buy anything !
Moral : Buy what max u can buy !
Now waiting for BD !

I was too in the same dilema, even bought the 24 incher ( which I am cursing myself for that), you can check my thread; conclusion: This is not the best time to buy graphics card. Wait for upcoming ATI 7XXX series, hold on to your current monitor, 4850 is excellent at 1440*900 resolution with almost any game

Thank you all for the replies. I normally don't EVER wait for hardware because it is a never-ending game but this time I have decided to wait because atm I am playing at 1440x900 reso and the HD4850 can handle most games with a good FPS at this resolution. When the 7 Series comes out I will upgrade both: my GPU and monitor :)
