Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

I need a GPU which doesn't needs extra power cable from PSU, that is it draws its power from the PCIe slot itself and it should be backwards compatible with PCIe 1.1 standard. In short want a GPU for a 945 board. Let it rip now. :D

hey i want ur help in suggesting me a gpu.. i am currently using palit revolution deluxe R700 4870x2 overclocked edition on my core i7 920 , 3Gb corsair @ 1600Mhz ddr3 triple channel and windows 7 64bit.

I play games on 22" Benq T2200HD @ 1920 * 1080 resolution and almost getting more then 60 fps in every games at this res..

but after all i have 5-6k Rs right now to spent on gpu so i have decided to buy 5870 via KMD ( he quoted 22k shipped) because one of my friend is willing to give me 15k for my rev700 deluxe ( it is 5 months old and having no issue at all)..

Plz suggest me wht should i do..

1 : will i buy 5870 after selling my 4870x2

2 : will i buy 5850 ( 15k ) and save my rest 6k for future 5850

3 : Stick to my 4870x2 and wait for GTX300 series but in that case i m sure i will not find any buyer for my 4870x2 ( right now my frnd is giving me 15k for it)

Reply ASAP

My suggestion:

1. Sell off the 4870x2 at 15k as its a great deal

2. Purchase HD5850 from India at rs. 17k

(Spending 12k+ on something having no international warranty could be risky)

I would suggest you to sell of your HD4870x2 now, and wait for HD5870 to come in India, it may be coming in a week or so..
It is not advisable to get one from KMD, I think you are taking about the gigabte one, they dont have international warranty.

And if you think you can wait, its always the best option.
It maybe possible that your card may go for less, but till that time you can add up more money.
The fermi achitechture looks very promising and may be possible they come at good price at equal or more performance than the HD5XXX series.

The best card which can run on a local PSU is a HD4670.

It is priced at 4.3k.

It will be real helpful if you tell your budget.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

What are the new games I can play at reasonable settings with Sapphire 4670 512MB DDR3 on a 22" LCD Monitor at a native resolution of 1600x1050 ?

I cannot go for a higher card as I have a VIP 400W Gold SMPS installed, recently purchased, which i do not want to abandon.

Thanks

Please mention your proccessor.
I'm having the same card and I play at that resolution also.
I play crysis @ high(not very high), noAA.
GTA4 cannot be maxed out.

NFS shift..almost maxed out.
prototype maxed out...
xmen wolverine maxed out...

Its a pretty good graphic card..
It will the latest of games at atleast medium settings.
MOSTLY GAMES WILL RUN ON HIGH SETTINGS JUST SHADERS OR TEXTURES TURNED TO MEDIUM

OR ALL MAXED OUT BUT AT A LOWER RESOLUTION LIKE 1024x768.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

I will be upgrading my processor to AMD 620 with Biostar 785 Mobo & 2 GB DDR2 800 Ram along with the 4670 512MB DDR2 Graphics card

I think this is the best VFM Upgrade given that i don't want to spend money on a new SMPS?

Does this clarification change your views given earlier on the games that can be played ?

Thanks

Shravan

Actually its quite similar to my config, i have a X2 550..

So the results remain pretty much the same.

You are getting a pretty good deal on 4870X2. Not great but decent. Going for 5850 is not advisable because it will be a downgrade for you.

In fact if you step up to 5870, even that is not a very good VMF decision. But it makes sense if you care for lower power draw and DirectX.

You can also wait for GF100 from Nvidia as it's just two months away. But in that case be prepared to lose a couple of thousands more on your X2.

Budget is not much, 5K at max so was hoping to get a second hand HD4830 but couldn't find one here on TE. Main thing is that the card should be decent enough to play 2007-2008 year games at 1280x768 resolution.

If you can stretch it by Rs. 400, then 9800GT is way better VFM @ 5.4k from Prime.

it will surely run your 2009 games smoothly at high settings. (not at extreme settings though)

EDIT: Oh, just saw your PSU. If its VIP Gold, then you can think of running 9800GT. Else HD4670 is a safer bet.

The card is gonna b for my neighbor's system and its an year old Intex machine and I don't suppose the OEM PSU is above 300W so want a GPU that doesn't needs extra power and as the Motherboard is a MSI one, 945 chipset, the card should be backwards compatible with PCIx16 1.1 standards. :ashamed:

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

^ Tell him to get second hand XFX 8600GT 256 DDR3@ 2k and with saved money SMPS like CX 400 etc. For any other higher card advise him to upgrade motherboard.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Add Sapphire HD4550 512MB GDDR3 @2.9k to your list. It is a decent entry level grfx card and better than 9500GT, and also good for HTPC setup.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Get another 4870 to add to my existing one or just get a 5870?

Can a 5870 work on a crossfire with a 4870?

performance?

Well thing is, their kid once saw me playing COD4 and was hooked to it. Only I know what a nightmare was it to get him off my PC and convince him that he can play it on his computer too.

So primarily it would be used for gaming, no HTPC angle here. So tell me a decent card that can run on his 945 and play pre2009 games at acceptable frame rates on a res of 1280x768. :cool2:

I will still recommend you to go for HD4670..
Its priced at Rs.4350.
Its a safe bet with the PSU.

It will max out almost very game pre 2009 at 1280x1024 resolution..(other than crysis ofcourse..)

Get a HD5870..
many games have SLI/CROSSFIRE issues...
It is always advisable to get a single power card than a SLI/CROSSFIRE option..

moreover the two card solution will take immense power..

AFAIK..it wont work..
the cards need to be of same series..
crossfire of HD3870 with HD4870 doesnt work..
but if we replace the HD3870 with a HD4850..it works..

GO FOR THE HD5870..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Hi,

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ with Krypton C18G400 Mobob with 350W SMPS and 1GB Mem. I am looking for an AGP GPU to play FEAR n NFS Carbon n newer games? I was thinking of AGP 4650 but couldnt find it in India. Other option could be HD 3650 ? I hope my PC wont be the bottleneck. I could play AOE3 with my current rig at 1024 x 768 with other settings unchanged. I am looking for something around Rs 6 to 8K for GPU, Ill invest in PSU if required but not preferable. I dont mind playing game at normal or low res. (I have 20inch LCD but I dont thing I can satisfy it with AGP!)

Thanks
