I have

AMD phenom x3 8450

ASUS M3A78-EM

4 GB RAM

Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 550W

Have budget of 6k

want to play GTA4,DIRT II,NFS,etc.

at decent settings

please recommend nice GPU for this requirements.
As mentioned by roboghost..

get a GTS 250..

best card in your budget..and you have a good PSU to power it also..

XFX Nvidia GTS 250 1GB may be 7K and XFX ATi HD 5670 1GB may be 6K or less.

GTS 250 better than HD 5670 and u will need good PSU too.....

XFX Nvidia GTS 250 or XFX ATi HD 5670??.. hw much for the first 1?
GTS 250 512mb available for ~ 6k..

HD 5670 ~ 5k..

HD5670<9800gt<GTS 250..

GTS 250 is the better card..

but it doesnt mean you buy that..

the choice depends on the PSU, the resolution you play at, other system specs..

and most importantly..whether you really need it.. :)

Thanks for the enlightenment guys, y'all have been really helpful \m/ .. errm.. at first i was looking to buy the HD 5670 (previously :D) ..

bt was really sceptical abt the price : performance.. was thinking on lines of a HD 5770 bt again, the price didnt seem to work for me.. looked up a XFX GTS 250 and mind u , it came really close (seems the memory bandwidth really does matter)..

and will my 2.0 Ghz AMD/ PCI-e X16/ 2 GB DDR2 RAM prove to be a bottle neck?

PSU: VX 450 (enuf, i think :P)

Budget = 6.5 K's .. (+ 2K's extra if i get a really good deal for more powerful one.)

Purpose: Pure gaming

Resolution : 1280x1024 or more with AA and AF thrown in ( the more the better ) :E .. may go for a corresponding resolution for wide screen later.

Games : GTA 4 / Crysis Warhead etc and scope for new releases ;)

Dont upgrade your monitor separately later...go for a full system upgrade when you get the moolah..

till then...a HD 5670 would be sufficient for the resolution you play on..

want to purchase a gpu+psu for my cousin...want to know which card is better his total budget is 16.5k
and he has core 2 duo and 19 inch monitor.
also i want to know are there any shops open in nehru place on october 2 as i a m planning to go today..

For a 19''...the native resolution is 1440x900..even a HD 5770 is sufficient for that..

its available for around 9k presently..

in a budget of 16.5..for both PSU and GPU..

a GTX 460 seems to be the obvious choice..

but it will be sort of an overkill for the monitor..

So dont get a GTX 460 unless your cousin is planning on upgrading the monitor..

For the PSU..

a corsair CX 400 ~ 2.7k for the HD 5770..

or

a corsair VX 450 ~ 3.5k if he gets the GTX 460..

:)

thanx for reply ....but can anybody tell me is nehru place open today.....

also he is now opting for point of view gpu 1gb it will cost around 12250 inr

Went to nehru place today.. went through almost every shop which had a door (CE/ C2C/ SMC/ Lapcom/ Misc) but still cudnt find a "XFX" ATi HD 5670/nVidia GTS 250 .. all they had was a ZOTAC/Sapphire/POV version.. many were speculating that XFX is no longer in supply.. cud u please suggest me a place/ shop where i could find XFX cards.. i dont trust any other.. i only have rashi peripherals back at home..

I am currently in US and planning to buy a good graphics card. I do not have much budget restrictions other than that I do not want to spend too much money for a small improvement in performance (I usually go for a bit high end stuff always. Like my last card I bought was for 32k. I think that post is still somewhere in this thread).

So I am confused between,

1. EVGA GTX 480

2. EVGA GTX 470

3. EVGA GTX 460

4. XFX ATI 5850

5. XFX ATI 5870

In all these I am looking only for the standard version. No superclocked ones.

BTW, I am a person who likes to play a lot of games. I want my new card to play Crysis 2 in high settings (I hope it will be possible). I did play Crysis and Crysis Warhead in High settings in my XFX 8800 GTX - XXX edition (though not in 'very high' or 'enthusiastic' and I compromised a bit on AA. I think it was 2xAA).

I usually *do not OC* my graphics card. So assume that I will play in stock settings.

(If you want more info of my PC, I am planning to buy a core i7 with 6 Gigs of Corsair RAM). No SLI plans.

GTX480 ftw!

BTW what resolution do you play at? I guess 1920x1080?

^^^ My current monitor is a crappy 22" one which does not support 1920x1080. But yes, I will be getting one which support that soon. So I do plan to play at 1920x1080 atleast when Crysis 2 is released.
