Graphic Cards graphics card advice

My Current Configuration:
Processor : Core2Duo E4400 2.0Ghz
Motherboard : Intel DG965RY
RAM : 1 X 512 DDR2 @ 667Mhz
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 798MB plus

I plan to take a widescreen preferably 22" and a good graphics card (I have decided for 8800GT 512DDR3 KnockOut)

Will my present configuration with 2 X 1GB DDR2 @ 800Mhz bottleneck the graphics card peformance.

I would also like to know about the loss in performance since my mobo is pcie1.0 (not pcie2.0)

Any clarification will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The CPU will be a bottleneck IMO, you gotta overclock it a bit to extract best performance from your GPU.

Mobo question maybe more experienced members can answer :)
 
the processor might just bottleneck the card a little bit...2ghz is not very fast

the pcie version doesnot matter to you anyhow....it will be the same performance
 
Pci 1.0 shouldn't be as big a issue as against cpu bottlenecking. You would see a significant improvement if you take ur procy to even 2.6-2.8ghz. 2ghz is slow for the current crop of gfx cards!
 
4850 is better buy, 8800GT only worthy if used @ around 8k.

Not bottleneck, as it stands for serious lagging. C2D @ 2GHz will perform like AMD X2 @ 2.5GHz, But still higher clocked CPU will output better results.

TBH, 9600GSO suits UR rig better.

Well I am on a tight budget. Don't have anything in specific. I am expecting this KnockOut edition to be around 12-13k. Don't suggest me Ati cuz I will be more than happy with this card. And Nvidia doesn't have a better card than this <15k and hey I need a PSU too. So can't afford higher than what 8800GT will cost.

I think I messed up above. First tell me about performance issues :

1. Will my system bottleneck graphics card performance?

2. How much loss due to my mobo supporting pcie16x 1.0?

Well for 12/13k get a 4850 a much better buy performance wise, Yes as mentioned above your system will be a bottleneck. And there would be hardly any performance drop merely from the mobo as against the whole system.
 
4850 beats 8800 GT :death: ... hell it even beats a 9800 GTX .....

ATI FTW....

and 8800 gt and and 4850 are also same price....

4850 is 11.5k

PSU suggestion : Corsair VX450 3.6k

or Point of view Black diamond 500 watts

or Coolermaster 600 watts

Actually Hunter's questioned me about my budget, so I wrote that and in between i got all these replies.
Also I can't find a "edit" button?

Coming back to the point - I have heard pcie2.0 graphics card degrade to 1.0 and work. How come I will have no performance loss? (a lil techy explanation might help)

I can upgrade to a faster proccie after sometime cuz right now I am on a tight budget.

Well PCI-E 2.0 has 16GB/s bandwidth, while 1.0 has 8 GB/s. No card existing today can saturate even PCI-E 1.0 bandwidth. Also at the resolution you will be gaming at (I'm assuming 1680X1050) there won't be any bottleneck possible running a PCI-E 2.0 card on a PCI-E 1.0 slot.

If you can upgrade your proccy (or even overclock it) then there will be no bottlenecks.

You can buy the HD 4850 for less than 11k through KMD, a reputed online dealer here.

IMO the cpu at default cores will bottleneck dis monsta cards....espg at higher res....so its better to overclock n e44 is decent overclocker:D

They do not degrade,they are backwards compatible,a pcie2.0 card will work on pcie1 slot as well as vice versa.
pcie2.0 has double the bandwidth (data sent to the card per unit time)than pcie1.0,but since today's cards don't use that amount of bandwidth you won't see any appreciable difference in the performance of card between the two.
If you can be daring enough to overclock you should not need a new proccie,at 2.0Ghz your processor will bottleneck both a 8800gt or 4850.
Also if you don't have qualms about a second hand card you can probably get a 8800gt for around 8k as others have pointed out and use the amount saved to get a better proc.
 
Why are u stuck with K.O version of 8800GT?. HD4850 can double K.O 8800GT out of ring..
4850 is an average 30% faster over GT at same price

I am in Delhi, India.

Here 8800GT 512 k.o. comes for 12-13k

I don't know if ati 4850 is even available here and even if it is then it will surely be costlier than this.

I will prefer Nvidia over Ati. Whats the use of buying if I would not even use it.

My needs:

Programming, Web designing, Image editing (mid-level), gaming (not hardcore) and HDs movie

I just want good 3D environment and fast enough environment.

It doesn't matter to me if the ati will give me more fps than nvidia.

Now according to my condition (needs & place - India) I think I should go for 8800GT 512 k.o for 12-13k

What say?
