Guys, please do yourself a favor and never ever try to get off a running train.

Guy's, this is a bad habit that quite a lot of people seem to have got accustomed to especially in cities. If not for yourself, do your loved ones a favor and and never ever attempt to do this. Your life is worth a lot more than the meager amount of time or money saved by doing this.

My cousins husband lost his life to a horrible accident on Friday doing just this. People in Hyderabad/AP might have read about the accident in news papers. He was coming back to Hyd by Godavari Express after a business trip and missed the station were he wanted to get off as he was asleep. He got of the train at the next station where there was no stop even while the train was running and then he tried to pull his luggage bag off the train. No one knows what happened, but the bag might have got struck somewhere, but he himself got pulled into the gap between the platform and the running train. His skull had fractures and one side of his head got other injuries, both his arms were fractured, one of his legs got crushed to such a state that there was nothing left when the body was handed over. It is a horrible way to die. His parents are devastated. My aunt and uncle are devastated. They had to face a lot of hardships in their life and both of them have illnesses. My cousins marriage and subsequent settling down was a major consolation for them. I cannot begin to describe the condition of my cousin. She is in shock and still unable to accept that her husband is dead. She is in a very bad mental state. She keeps saying that her husband hasn't come home yet. Theirs was a sort of love marriage. Both of them are too young for a tragedy like this.

So please guy's think of your loved ones before you attempt to do something like this.

Re: Guy's, please do yourself a favor and never ever try to get off a running train.

Not just getting off a running train, but hanging off buses, racing the streets and frustrated driving on the roads will get you nowhere. For instance, if you time yourself when you drive 'quick' and when you drive 'slow', the time saved would not be more than 10 minutes in most cases. Surely one doesn't have that important work to attend to daily. And if one does, they can start 10 minutes earlier.

Re: Guy's, please do yourself a favor and never ever try to get off a running train.

I also request everyone reading this thread to please follow what Lord has said

Please donot try to get off a running train PLEASE

You will know why if you are a mumbaikar - but for others - you dont know when it happens and it happens within seconds and its done

I have myself experienced couple of such type of accidents - and i was lucky only once to save a boy from getting into the space between the train and the platform - I was going towards the exit and the train has started again and then i

saw a boy jumping out of the train suddenly - maybe he wanted to get down but got asleep - he slipped and rolled over the platform - i was just metres away from him and i caught his hand as fast as possible so that he doesnt fall in the gap

Still he got injuries on his hand and legs - Not everyone is this lucky - so PLEASE :)

May his soul rest in peace.. and god be with your cousins family in the hour of need.

Re: Guy's, please do yourself a favor and never ever try to get off a running train.

Very very depressing! Sorry to hear that Ajay. :(

Let the Almighty give his family the strength and courage to bear the loss.

Re: Guy's, please do yourself a favor and never ever try to get off a running train.

Sorry for your cousins loss. May his soul RIP

Good that you started this thread. This does not only apply to jumping off a running train. I have seen many get in and off a running bus, Drink and Drive, rash driving. I personally am guilty of doing the latter two. When you think about it later it really disgusts me. Hope we know that I(we) are endangering the lives of others and our loved ones.

Sorry to hear about the loss. May his soul R.I.P.

IMHO, having seen people jumping off running trains, trying to run after bus, etc. dont really know that they are just one step away from death. One slip up and :poof:. Infact i have seen 2 cases of people who slipped on the platform, luckily both survived.

Lets hope some ppl who are still doing it will stop it after reading this thread.

this happens a lot in the mumbai locals. the point is however hard one tries to spread awareness, there are usually some people who will never accept it. One more major risk is people crossing tracks to take a short cut to the other side of the platform

Really Sad yaar..... Silly mistakes can prove fatal... " Never attempt any stunts in/from a moving vehicle" ... Life is very important, even though if someone likes to do it, he should think of his family first ..

May his soul rest in peace..

Yep, unless you see a horrific accident yourself. I never hesitated climbing/exiting the train while in motion, however one day I saw a guy who mis-judged a step. He fell into the gap between platform and train, and it was horrific. Suffice to say he was alive but lost both his legs :(

I never have attempted to climb up/down the locals even if its moving less then 10 kmph...

Nemesis: Sorry to hear about the loss, I cannot even imagine the grief the family might be going through.

I have seen couple of train accident patients in my icu.

One chap jumped at thane station.he came to us with both legs smashed and bleeding profusely.

Whatever medical ways of stopping bleeding, nothing helped

his blood pressure was falling cont.not responding to anything we doing.

one brother was pushing blood from one big vessel through his neck line.

Another one pushing fluid from his arm.he was already on vasopressor but nothing helped.

till the time surgeons arrived and amputee his both leg and literally tied of his blood vessels below knee.

He was engineer.

Finally after three hours his blood pressure settled and after two days, we could send him to room.

that day I decided never run behind train.

Its not worth.

May God, bless the soul of the departed and give you and your family the strength to cope. Truly a sad and shocking incident. Prayers are with the family.

Many a times this happens when people behind egg the front in front to jump. This way the front person takes the whole risk upon themselves. Same happens at traffic lights when the car behind you eggs you to jump, or cross over when it is yellow/orange. I never heed.

I don't know should I like it or not, that's really not something to be liked. But I liked that you warn all of us.

Everyday we really get something like this in daily newspapers but still no one pays attention and just become the victim next day.

Sympathies to your cousin and your family.

May God give them strength to pass through this tragic time.

Amen

I have once fallen from school bus trying to get down, after that incident i always make sure only to get down when bus/train completely. My heart really goes out for your family, may god give them strength.
