Something very strange happened yesterday !!

On Wednesday I applied for a new Hathway account - 64kbps Unlimited @500/month - for a computer which will be used for emails only ...... AND ... Yesterday (Friday) HATHWAY sent a person over who finished the connectivity by afternoon !!

Got my new connection in less than 48 hours - GREAT WORK HATHWAY !! :clap:

This is not going to have a happy ending. I'm using Hathway's 256kbps unlimited plan myself, and don't ask me about the service and everything. I get good speeds pretty much all the time, but... apart from that, it's not too good.

i hope you get lucky but be prepared for endless hours of wasted time in exchangine pleasentries with the hathway customer care (?) dept

my connection used to be down pretty much 25% of the time and inevitably weekends were downtimes

the final nail in the coffin came when at the end of the 4th quartely payment period, I started calling them to send someone to come collect the check (they didn't have any payment center either)..

I came home early from office on Thusrday then friday...no sign of the collection guy despite having committed to come

I wasted 2 days of weekend time sitting at home waiting for someone to come collect the payment (again despitehaving committed to come), repeated phone calls yielded one answer, "our guy is on his way"...eventually no one showed up, and then they promptly disconnected my 1 year old account on Monday....

I was mega issed off and asked them to disconnect my line permanently and refund my deposit and installation charge

they refused to return either, so me and the other (sole )disgruntled customer in my apartment removed their switches and optical converter and kept it with us refusing to return it till the refund came....afte which it promptly did :)

asked for a airtel connectio that tuesday which was installed on wednesday...

less than a few hours of downtime in the last couple of years....

and i simply pay my bill online now :)

What can I say !! Hathway are the only people who are ready to give a conx in my area. Airtel refused, TATA/VSNL who have their India headquarters right across the street from me refused, they asked me to organise a minimum amount of users in the building so it will be worth it for them to give a conx. I dont like what MTNL offers. For this same Email usage, I used a MTNL unlimited Dial Up for a couple of years @700/month and then one fine day they increased this DialUp 56kbps Unlimited to 1400/month :@

I have used Hathway for around 6 years now and they have been OK for me - only the last 3 months I had a problem with their service. I was now told that some Muncipal service had dug up a road for maintenance work and they cut thru the Hathway undergound cable which caused the problem - sounds like an old oft repeated fairy tale :)

With this "Narrow" Band 64kbps conx I have get an average download speeds of just over 8 KB/s. For this conx which is used for emails speed does not matter, only important to have unlimited 24 hours usage. Lets see how this works out.

Freaking same prob, in your case TATA HQ's is nearby, in my case the TATA residential palace is 2-3 blocks away, they say my area is not feasible, same shit with Airtel et other big players, infact its got so bloody worse in last 5-6 mths I do not have net connection at all at home !!!
MTNL has a waiting time of 4 bloody mths, freakin Financial retard capital of India, the tier 2-3 cities will have much better connections at a a much lower rate, I am ready to pay 1000 bux a mth for even 128 kbps but no one will come to Malabar hill...:@

If you need a short time conx just for picking up mail or small time browsing then think about the MTNL DialUp service where you dont need to fill any forms or join any ECLUSIVE Clubs :) Just dial 172231 and connect from a MTNL line and DialUp modem, User name is the phone number you are calling from and password is "mtnl". The charge for this service is Rs6/hour + phone usage charges - these charges will be included in phone bill. I use this service whenever Hathway have a "maintenance" breakdown and I need to email or browse.

i'm on hathway for almost 2 yrs now initially the speeds and everything was good for the first 6 months i was enjoying and now on a 256kbps i get max 8 kbps speed and when i call up those guys and ask them to fix my speed they say sorry sir we have given u dedicated line there is no problem with line may be your PC is infected with virus and all that kinda bullcrap.
i tell that guy to come over t o my place and see for him self he comes and tells me that your hardware is not suitable for hathway :@ (he thought i was from alibaug) when i try to play games on local servers usually Fragshack/V-Streets i get 900+ latency and it never comes down 400. i cant quit this connection cuz no one in my area is willing to provide me the connection cuz there are less people in my area with internet connection.
 
AAh atleast this idiots shd had reduced 256kbps unlimit plan rates........thoughy the 1600 plan is not bad but now its more like u paying so much everymonth so it becomes a compulsion to vasool it.....

i like the liteway plan also whole sunday too u get net.....i was abt to change it bak to that plan but thatMO frm airtel now cost 450 per month and mera sapna tooth gaya....

Also same situation like Eazy here..the good ones doesnt come..reliance with some idiotic scheme drop here often.....No decent plan from MTNL....for peak hours....
 
well bsnl will drop 256 kbps unlimited plan on nov at diwai price 600 per months

wait for time count clock :bleh: will fall 600 R.S ULIMTED plan :P

i already apply 512 kbps blast for 1.4 k 8 motnhs ago :@

i call him many tiem i haev paid u tha comapy at chennai

he said i was wating for long quote at 2 moths ago :ashamed:

using ma ma bloody 56 kbps sify unlimited plans so i am tried of call too much and got that money from the company (means service are not good :P)

he refused u coem u fix that cable at kottur there is service is there :ashamed: why hathway does not give good service :S

is suxxx there is no good service that speed are horrible :@

that why i got 256 kbps unlimited plans from bnsl 5 months go :D

That's because Airtel has done away with the 64kbps connection (long back) and existing users were auto-upgraded to 128kbps unlimited.:ohyeah:

You probably are on the 128kbps connexion...

lol.. I got my Sify connection in 4 Hours flat after applying. :P That does not reflect on the quality of the ISP. :P

4 hours !! :O

It took Hathway about 2 weeks the last time I got my connection and they also took the same time for a friends connection a few months back, that is why I thought 2 days was unusal :P

@farookh the DNS servers are the same for my old and new connection, there is no difference.

BUT if I did not take a Hathway conx I have not much of choice besides MTNL, and I definitley wanted an unlimited conx as first preference. Hathway has not been bad for me for many years.

Hmm quite strange we get 128 Kbps UL @ 500-600 bucks here ;) Seems hathway is a bit costly in low speed segment .:P
