LL try these ideas and get back to you. In the mean while, My sound card is jus in front of my graphics card. With small distance of separation. Can this be the reason for Overheating of the graphics card ????

dominator, i wanted to know the bootup temperature for the same.. if the cold bootup temperatures are even somewhat ccloser to the idle temps you get on that card then we can assume proper contact..

generally heat builds up in 10-15mins if the contact is good but airflow is not.

since his card is new, we can rule out dust issues.

but hot concentrated heat zones inside cabby can do the similar damage....

Sorry guyz i am a NOOB . I wanna know how much of the importance is the cabinet and fans . What if i have a crappy cabinet with cover on one side removed !!!!

removing the side panel wont make a huge difference, it will only get more dust attraction.

post some pics so that people can advice about your case.

sorry for thread hijacking...but I think by sharing my problem we can analyze this even more:

My config:

E7300

Gigabyte p32 d3sl

powercolor 4850

collermaster cm690 with 6 fans (2 top, 1 back, 1 side, i front and 1 bottom)

tagan 600 watts

asus xonar dx

lately (last 2-3 weeks) my card has started to overheat a lot...shuts down after gaming for 20 mins:( (on games like SF4 and COD MW2)...it used to never happen before and I used to play for 5-6 hrs non stop with the same config...

I have just upgraded to windows 7 now but while I was in Xp i could see the PC shutting down once

Load temp goes to 110 deg after which it shuts down and when I restart the temp hovers around 91-98 degrees:S

Update: its been 25 mins after the shutdown but i can see in everest that the GPu temp is still 95degrees:(

everest is most probably showing you old temperature at bootup.

update everest..

try gpu-z and report temperatures..

still same temperatures..!!?? then take the card out after keeping PC off for an hour..( so that card cools down )

open the cooler and clean all the dust.. (do not open the cooler while card is warm.. the thermal tapes will break and you will be trouble to hunt for them...

meanwhile.. if your card is reference HD4850 then take a look at this...

that is also a reference HD4850... idles around 30c :ohyeah: never ever crosses 60c under any circumstances even at 700/1050 :hap5:

those are 2x 120mm sunbeam 90cfm fan (those which are bundled with sccf)

@OP:
Could you provide some data and/or screen shots. Not that we doubt you...it would help us see the gravity of the situation, and how critical it is. If you could...

1. Post a screen shot of the system innards. So we can see the over all inside arrangement, and the cable management.
2. Start RivaTuner/or GPU-Z so the temperatures are being monitored, and run a game or furmark. Post that screen shot.
3. Run a RealTEMP test with Prime95 on (2 worker threads), and post the screen shot you get in the end.
4. Update your signature with your specifications. See any members post for an example.

Intel DG31PR and hd 4870 combo

Friends recently i bought a HD 4870 Sapphire 512 mb graphic card. But while changing the cabinet i did something wrong which resulted in motherboard shorting . Now i got a replacement board Intel DG31pr. My system administrator while fixing the new cabinet and motherboard asked me y i got this graphics card for such a good system. Is somethin wrong with my motherboard or graphics card ????

My PC specifications are as follows
Intel DG31PR motherboard
Cooler master exterme 600 w
Sapphire 4870 512 mb
Transcend 2 gb ram
Samsung 20" monitor

Pls reply soon

Re: Intel DG31PR and hd 4870 combo

Mate,

Just ignore his comment ! what's so Good about a Intel DG31 Mobo with 2GB Ram ? which is quite basic & What's bad about an 4870 512.

May be he meant why you bought a powerfull card like 4870 512 card, when you could have done away with the onboard video of Intel DG31.

That offcousre you use ur system for basic tasks other then gaming.

Re: Intel DG31PR and hd 4870 combo

Thanks for the comment. Can i play games released during 2008 with good Quality??

Re: Intel DG31PR and hd 4870 combo

I think u meant games released upto 2008.

You can play all those games in your 20" monitor with high settings with a 512MB HD4870 :D

Re: Intel DG31PR and hd 4870 combo

i play most games maxed out, even with 2~4X AA on my 4870 @ 1920*1080. Surelly your hardware operator meant , y such a powerful card.... or maybe he is an nvidia fanboy :D

Re: Intel DG31PR and hd 4870 combo

So you mean i can use this motherboard and graphics card without any problems or compatability issues right !!

most of these " Sys Admins " ( aka experts) fail tounderstand the concept of adding a gfx card for performance improvement.
For them, onboard gfx is sufficient, coz they hardly see a PC used for mid/high end gaming.

Hello!! Remember what I said here?

http://www.techenclave.com/1380696-post9.html

And I quote:

The Sorcerer said:
Extreme series? Change it! Why? You can do a manual search on the forums itself to answer that question. Can't change it? You system, your money, your risk, your wish :)

Advice is as good as the person using it. Again- can't change it? Your system, your money, your risk, your wish :). Hopefully other components are stable enough to be used. Again, I would recommend to change to a better psu. After that, stress test the system to make sure your old psu didn't damage the system.

Re: Intel DG31PR and hd 4870 combo

dude, I was given the same "advice" when I had bought my card. That guy was insistent that these graphics cards are a waste of money and just by adding RAM you could magically solve all your problems. Obviously, I politely told him ok and never bothered to call back again :)

also, you should SERIOUSLY pay heed to what Sorcerer is trying to tell you. Change that PSU. If u search, u will find examples of CME600W psu's exploding when loaded and taking other components with them.
