HD format war gets big shock

I'm not getting why Blur-Ray gaining traction is necessarily a bad thing.

Blu-ray stores 25GB/side vs.HD-dvd's 15...

To me that was the only diff that mattered wrt to optical storage.

Can't wait for BR to get stable and the inevitable price-drops that will surely follow.

The only problem with BR is that it was pushed out in hurry without proper standardization and without taking into account the feature set.

Some basic functions and features were and are missing in the players available now. And with the announced reforms many of these players will not be able to utilize many of the new features.

HD DVD when it came out was very well though out and all players out there support all the basic and advanced features like PIP, commentary etc.

And obvious cost factors.

You can get HD DVD players for under $200 now. Also for PC, the Xbox 360 drive is there which is also not that expensive.

Who cares about HD Format war? LG is going to release combo player that can play Bluray and HD. :ohyeah:

plus, rumours about Universal Studios also having an exit clause in their HD DVD contract so they too might jump to BluRay :)

Paramount told High-Def Digest that it currently has no plans to abandon HD DVD. "We are still supporting HD DVD," said the Paramount spokesperson.

^^Bluray has 85% of the content. Not 85% of the sales. There is a difference, though that is likely to be obliterated soon.
