Hi guys, I needed a SATA for around 5-6K. I was quoted 5.1k for the seagate 250GB at lammy but wanted to know if somethnig better is available for around the same price or should i get the seagate only.
Also whats NCQ and do i really need a HDD which supports that:huh: ?

yup damn good rate........last i heard for 160gb ard was 4.5k...that through net..........
ncq....(native command queing)...details u can get through google or seagate.com....
all i understood frm it was.....with this technique the heads of the disc moves mor effeciently...so crashing or development of bad sectors becomes less i guess so.....
to identify it.....go to seagate.com...and check the model no next to 250gb sata ncq if it exists....and then check it

Hitach 250gigs...waaaaay better than the seagate...its the drive next to the raptors in performance (the SATA2 model) Hitachi T7K250 250gigs

deskstar has another alias ... deathstar ... no wonder why it had this nick :D

WD or SG is a good idea anyway .. though i never had a prb with maxtor in last 5 years

Are you sure it costs 6.2K.

It was 7.5K in November.

I got a price of 6k for the Hitachi 250GB series 7K250 last month from APEX Mumbai - the newer T7K series are not available locally as far as I know.

That was when it was in the hands of its former owner - IBM. With the Hitachi its no longer the same story ;)

The Hitachi drives maybe better than seagate but what about their after sales service?

My suppliers have confirmed a good after sales service for Hitachi drives - I have had one Hitachi for about 2 years - no problems with that drive and I bought another about 2 months back.

If the Hitachi's run fine I dont care about the after sales service :)

I had 2 Maxtor drives die mid 2005 and they replaced the drives pretty fast - good after sales service but the Diamondmax 9 drives are BAD.

Are the Hitachi Deskstar 7K series PATA, SATA or SATA2 ?

Bcoz....AFAIK.......only T7K series Deskstars r SATA2

So,Please HELP 2 Guide/Correct Me........."MOST URGENT"

Check this page for 7K series 250GB drives....
https://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/d7k250/d7k250.htm

and this page for T7K series drives.....
https://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/en/menuitem.f9b3189a2f2e122d92b86b31bac4f0a0/

7K 40/80GB = SATA2
7K 250GB = SATA 1
T7K 250GB = SATA 2

my main HD - seagate 40 GB PATA on which my os is installed is from 1996 and working fine. all my 3 hd's are seagate pata drives , never had a prob with them.

picked up new seagate 200 gb sata drive for 4.5 k

My 40Gb seagate PATA has also lasted me more than 5yrs and is still running strong but after i saw the frequent crashes ocurring in Chaos's SATA's at his place i decided i should buy some with a good replacement warranty.
