@hailstone- The min. price i got on 25th is 3.1k. And thats an offer price for opening ceremony of a shop. MAY I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GETTING AT THAT PRICE ??. But still its not very cheap. So my cousin decided to use his old IDE hdd for now..

Hope it will come down to normal in a fortnight

It cannot come down in a fortnight... Output is quite low due to floods & Holiday season in the west is about to start which would create huge demand. No manufacturer can fulfill the demand... Also both OEM suppliers have to first cater to the mainstream PC manufacturers 'coz of their contract. Don't expect a sharp drop for atleast 2-3 months... Both WD & Seagate are predicting atleast 2-3 quarters... :@

That price was on 25th Oct. from a local reseller in Bhopal. Now even he will not give this price... :(

Re: HDD Prices may go up..

I've been contacting "customer service/sales" of various online sites last 2 hours, for pricing & availability of 1TB Internal HDD @ 7200 rpm
hydshop.in
theITwares
theITdepot
buy.com .....crazy rates going upto 12.5K !!!!!

prime has no listing at all; Most Mumbai shops are closed today & will open only by tomorrow or Monday. All advised me NOT TO place online order as rates & availability is uncertain.

It will not be long ..... 2-3 weeks before all local stocks get exhausted and then whatever is left will be "astronomically priced" i.e 1TB @ 15K :@

Sigh....my timing is awful to build my new rig :(

Re: HDD Prices may go up..

^^ 6k for 2TB is still cheap :P..considering 500GB prices r 4k ! Within 10 days 2TB will hit 10k at least !! I plan to sell all my 2TBs :D

Re: HDD Prices may go up..

^.. I don't think it can touch 10k. It can reach 7-8k but not beyond that. On newegg the price is ~$130 & typically the Indian price is ~800 bucks more than newegg....

Re: HDD Prices may go up..

My 1 TB Hitachi HDD has stopped working guys,my question is if i RMA it will Hitachi Honor The Warranty and replace it with a 1 TB drive???

Re: HDD Prices may go up..

it's going to be worse :ashamed:
The biggest impact has been on the production of computer hard disc drives – key components whose prices have risen by up to 20 per cent since the floods began.

The impact on global hard disc drive production is severe not just because the biggest producers such as Western Digital are in Thailand, but also because a host of smaller component suppliers are clustered in nearby industrial parks.

Samsung, meanwhile, which has sizeable PC sales but is not in the top five, said that it expected supply shortages due to the floods, although it believed its own computer sales would not be hurt badly. Lenovo and Asustek have also warned that the PC industry generally would be hit by component supply shortages.

It would if its under warranty...though there is no guarantee on how much time... May be a month or much more...

HDD shortage in coming months due to Thailand flooding

Due to flooding in Thailand there will be shortage of HDD for next few months as WD, Seagate had to close the manufacturing unit there and it won't be operation for at least next three months means no new HDD will be produced and industry has only two months of supply left.

Hence the prices are expected to go very high....

We can see in many shop the prices are already increased...

Oh my lord, the Mayans were right! First the hard drives, then it will be the graphics cards, processors and motherboards soon to follow... the world is starting to end!

On ye side note, check out the third comment in that article. Don't know if it's true, but conspiricy theories always seem to rise up promptly.

Re: HDD Prices may go up..

Well, I placed an order for a WD 1TB (2.5") USB 3.0 HDD on Saturday after hearing the news. Cost me 5k on Flipkart. Waiting for delivery now...
