Hard drive prices in retail channels may start dropping in December

Several channel retailers are already preparing to dump their hard drive inventory, which was piled up due to concerns over potential shortages, in December as the imbalance between supply and demand is not as serious as originally expected and the retailers are trying to shed some stock to avoid from being hurt as hard drive capacity will be gradually restored in January and February 2012, according to sources from channel retailers.

Since Japan-based hard drive motor supplier Nidec already announced that one of its plants in Thailand has resumed production, while many other hard drive component suppliers are also aggressively seeking solutions to substitute their lost capacity in Thailand, the sources believe the hard drive shortage issues will see an obvious improvement in January 2012.

Since the hard drive shortages may not be as serious as expected, while demand in the PC market remains weak as pricing has surpassed consumers' sweet spot, several retailers are already set to drop their hard drive prices and dump inventories into retail channel in December.

Lamington Road, you need to find the shop, its inside the bldg, i know the bldg by sight, not by name..... Else if you stay near Ghatkopar ~ Ghatkopar west, Variety Stationary. I am assuming you mean cheap DVDs which are OK quality also ;) ~ National brand etc.

where do we get the dvd national cheap there?(lamington road)

last time i checked i got them for 380 for 50 pack and he said prices will rise further :S

Flipkart.com: Verbatim DVD-R 50 Pack Spindle: Blank Media

@Vivek

Are Those reliable??

National ones

Well, before i got myself a ext HDD, used them to take movies from friends. Worked pretty well, only cons, as usual was the total cost, and the fact that you could never have enough of them, as there was usually more stuff that i wanted to take. Once i got hold of an ext HDD, stopped buying the DVDs. IMO, can say, they are pretty reliable.

I dont think so, they will start slowing down by that time, and prices will start dropping.

That's what I said. They would start their journey southward after March 2012 but to reach to Pre-flood prices it would take some more time..

I don't think it will take months for HDD prices to fall. As soon as the productions are at 60/70% level, distributors have to lower the prices. Profit gained from HDD mainly depends on the number of units sold rather than the margin. Another thing is that they also know that the consumers will definitely hold on until the prices come down as it was previously. So, there's no point to create artificial crisis and keep the price very High for them. :)
