Hi,

My office PC is rebooting after reaching login page. I momentarily can see a BSOD flashing. I tried repairing windows with XP CD, but then it just goes to the login page and doesn't show any login icon. I feel the current login has gotten corrupted. Is there any solution to this ? Or do I have to reinstall ( I have to back up the DB files etc on the disc, and also the bookmarks etc, which will be a major issue, so want to avoid it).

Edit: I tried starting it in safe Mode and even then it would crash. Now its showing -

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Edit2: I fixed the ntoskrnl.exe file, but still the computer reboots after reaching the login screen. I am all at sea here ! :(

Thanks

Mallik

call IT services :P

Duh !

I expected something smart from you guys !

The computer is outside the service period and I will have to wait for the guys to respond. I am going to reinstall tomorrow, so if anyone has better ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,

Mallik

the averagy IT services policy forbids employees from tinkering with their office PC's , hence the advice :)

Well mine is a small firm, and I am the India office in-charge. I decide on what is to be done, so please reconsider !

Pull out the HDD, put it in another running system, back up your data then format it. This is what I would have done, the last ditch effort.

If there is another better option, please let me know the same.

Note: With such critical data, you should use 2 disks in RAID 1 array.

I solved the problem ... the RAM stick seemingly was not compatible with my Motherboard. Repaired Windows with my old sticks and the problem was solved. As soon as I insert the new RAM stick it starts rebooting continuously. However, its working fine on another comp. It was a 1 GB DDR 400 stick. I am currently using two 512 MB DDR 400 sticks.

However, there is a minor issue. My main account seems to have disappeared from the Logon page. I can only access it by pressing "Ctrl+Alt+Del" twice like Administrator. I tried all the answers that were available on the web, but still am not able to figure out why it has disappeared. The account works just fine and can be accessed from the Direct Login screen.

I have tried Tweak UI and manual registry editing. Tweak UI doesn't even show the option of "hiding the given account" as it shows in the case of the other users.

If any one has a clue, please let me know

Cheers !

~M
