I want to upgrade my gfx card but got caught between these two.

Some suggested me 4870 toxic edition while 5770 is equal to it except dx11 advantage.

So help me guys.

Other flavors will also do but considering my budget.

My budget is 7k - 10k.

Will be gaming not more than @1200 res

psu vx450

Trust me at that resolution you will not feel any difference while gaming between your new card and the current card. If you plan to go for full HD save up for a GTX 460.

What Aces said....

Dont waste money unless you are planning to buy a new monitor or your 9800GT has gone kaput..

And, how the hell did you manage to overclock on the stock HSF and maintaining sane temps. I have my proccy running at the default clocks and temps are still 50 ish..... What is it? Have you bought a dedicated AC for your processor or what....:P

i use core temp to monitor but the default amd HWmonitor shows temps 50+ And using stock paste and cooler. But the inside of my cabby is very very neatly managed for enough airflow (5 sunbeam 80mm fans) and excellent cable management.
And best part (not to disclose) i m using hsf fan from my old amd 939 hsf which does 4300+ and runs between 3800-4670 rpm. as opposed to the stock 720 hsf fan under 3k rpm.:(

coming to the topic... i'm planning for new 22in lcd in this month and thus will game over 1600 resolution. Also selling my 9800gt to somebody and so an upgrade.

so atleast now suggest me something best upto the 10k mark finally...

Get a GTX 460 768mb versions should be able to handle Full HD comfortably. It should be around the 11-12k mark.

4870 is an old tech now, 5770 is an overall good card, a very low idle thermal footprint (is important if your comp is on 24/7)

If it is strictly under 10k, get the HD5770 such as the MSI R5770 Hawk. Has a custom PCB, non-reference heatsink design, improved power phases and performs exceedingly well. Costs just under 10k. If you are OK with a second hand deal, you may get a HD4890 which performs better than the HD5770 but at the expense of a higher TDP and power consumption and a reduced warranty (if you buy a second hand card i.e).

If you can increase your budget to 13k, you can get a GTX460 1GB from Zotac with a 5 year warranty which is currently the best bet for mid-end GPUs. Gives the HD5850 a good run for its money which is priced at 16~17k and upwards. Even the 768MB variant at a slightly lesser price is an awesome GPU. :)

thx but will my vx450 handle GTX 460? coz i wont be OCing.

Yepp, I second for a 460....... And, if not that, steer clear from 4870. Get a5770 instead..... Low energy consumption, very low heat output, more or less the same performance as a 4870...... I have a 4870 and besides metro 2033 I can play all games at full HD max settings 4x AA 60 FPS...... Crysis, Gamer settings and no AA 30+ FPS.....

Get ATI Radeon MSI Hawk HD 5570. I'm using and I truly love it, it idles at 42 Degrees and never goes above 65 Degrees at full load, I didn't even have to unlock catalyst to play with fan settings. It comes pre-overclocked and in almost all games it beats ATI Radeon HD 4870 also, new drivers are doing good performance gains. Apart from that you'll get Direct X 11 and very low power consumption.

I wouldn't recommend the HAWK. ~_~

Higher clocks aren't helping the HD5770 a whole lot and the reference cards already run really cool. If you wait a month, nvidia's gf106 based 40nms are on the way. Zotac has been doing a great job at bringing cards to India right after their release and come with a 5 year warranty, which ensures decent reselling value. Even if it loses to the HD5770, it would most likely bring price cuts. Think about it. ;)

You may want to look at the reviews, MSI Hawk ATI Radeon HD 5570 is better than regular ATI Radeon HD 5570 in all the games. And it is not entirely about the higher clock, we're also taking the HSF MSI have implemented in HAWK Edition, it is marvelous.

You mean the HD5770. And I read enough reviews, did you read one? The difference is about 2 fps on an average. The voltage control just helps the overclocking which again is mostly pointless. It reference cards run cool enough to not need any fancier cooling. Makes sense for a bencher to get it, for a common gamer? Not so much.

ok so it was a pretty techno fight here.

i just inquired today,

MSI 5770 costs 9k

MSI 5770 Hawk is 9.4k

& GTX 460 all beyond 12k so out of my reach.

now just like MSI has the hawk which is OC editon, does even sapphire, xfx etc or other brands have their own editions??

and finally which brand to go for?

msi

xfx

sapphire

powercolor

Ronit,
I recently bought MSI R5830 1 gb DDR 5 card
Trust me It is 13000 INR
In future you can do crossfire with 5870 or 5850
Dont go for GTX 460 if you plan multi GPU
