Guys,

Planning to attend a marriage near Bangkok on Januray 2012 end. First 3 days are sponsored in a 7 star resort BUT 60km away from Bangkok:@.

After the marriage planning on a 3 days extended stay in Bangkok. Since I have never booked any hotels or never really visited bangkok, wanted your help in searching for a economical and safe place.

I would be accompanied by Mom, dad and sis.

I have heard that Bangkok is even cheaper than India so My budget is also adjusted to be less.:bleh:

Any tips on food, travel etc are welcome

^^Anything cheap...from 2k-5k for all 4 ppl. I get hptels in 100$ in Australia so obviously expecting it to be a lot cheaper there

2k to 5k per day or for 3 days ?

Hotel Ambassador in Bangkok is a great place to stay.

^^obviously not:)...2-5k per ay for 4 ppl Can u pass some links and do u reckon 4 ppl can stay in under 5k per day in Hotel Ambassador

I had been to Bangkok this January and stayed at the President Palace Hotel at Sukmvit (close to Nana metro railway station). I think i paid around 4K or so per night. Breakfast included.
I suggest you book through Hotels.com as you can cancel later if you do get another better hotel at better price.

@Raks...how big were the rooms? and was the break fast included a unlimited buffet:)?

Oh sorry did not know you had replied.

The rooms were pretty spacious even though it was for 2 people (double bed). Had a sofa etc in the room, study table, wifi internet etc. And mind you, i took the cheapest room.

The breakfast is unlimited and is awesome. Lots of stuff to have and me being a vegetarian had absolutely no issues.

Check out the small review i wrote on trip advisor about my stay at this hotel. Link below. My id on tripadvisor is rak007

Value for money, Great Location, awesome breakfast, great service...all in all great Hotel - Review of President Palace Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand - TripAdvisor

Guys, Any good websites where I can do the bookings preferably where I am also allowed to cancel

Most third party websites allow you to cancel but i prefer Hotels.com

I have done bookings close to Rs. 50,000 till now at 3-4 hotels in last 1.5 years so i can say they are really good.

In most cases the cancellation is free (upto 48 hours before your check in date) but be sure to ready the cancellation policy. In some cases where they give SPECIAL rates or anything, cancellations are not allowed.

Agoda.com is also an option and their policy is similar to hotels.com but they themselves charge a flat 15$ fee of cancellation which i don't prefer to give them.

Also hotels.com is good because, they will price match if you find the same hotel and same room at same dates for a lower price anywhere else, till the time of your travel.

Other options are

booking.com

expedia.com

You can also try those flight + hotel on the travel websites but i personally like to keep these two separate so do not prefer.

Thanks @Toxic.... Kingston mentioned by you is almost 50% cheaper than 'President Palace Hotel' mentioned by Raks. I will do some more research but am planning to book the hotels by weekend.

only drawback I could see for Kingston is full payment in advance and no refund:(

@Vercetti

You can check other hotels of the President like President Solatire etc etc and see if you find anything cheaper.
Book a hotel only after being absolutely sure as there is no refund in Kingston.
The Sukmvit area in Bangkok has tons of hotels so you should not face any issue with getting hotels at better prices.

Thanks Raks....BTW: I checked and in the info it mentioned that max 2 only allowed in a room....
we are actually 4 but were planning to stay in the same room:(...do u think this would be a problem ( i sleep in the sofa and 3 ppl in the double bed as my sis is realy really slim)

They wont really allow that since a standard room has 2 person occupancy (irrespective of actual room capacity). For all additional person they will charge extra. Thats how the hotel industry works, so you cannot help it.

yup man.....i know. I was thinking of putting an extra bed and telling the hotel ppl that there were actually 3 ppl only:) and that I would not be staying at the hotel. I doubt that they would allow 4 ppl in a room.

I was looking at suites and that also has a max capacity of 3 ppl.

I saw a 2 BHK suite for 400$ for 4 days but the issue is it did not have free internet...internet was 600 bhats/ day:(

U are probably the 10th person to say this:) ...i would so love to get drunk and chop off my pinky finger. But sadly no friends...just my sis and me to enjoy the Bangkok nightlife

Hangover 2 extended edition :P

Guys...finally decided to book the below Hotel:

Silom City Hotel

72 Soi Prachum (Silom 22), Silom Road, Bangrak, Bangkok, 10500 Thailand

Just wanted to know if this location would be good enough for me to access restaurants and nightlife?

You should start by reading through the reviews here. They usually share their praises or concerns over a lot of things, including location and accessibility.

From what I've read so far, there's plenty of street food and restaurants to choose from. Here's the info you need on Nightlife.

Thanks Toxic.

Just booked the Silom City Hotel for 20k Approx.

Weirdly I was charged 100bucks initially and the hotel fee after that. Any idea why the rs 100 would be charged???
