I've posted this in the gpu section, cause I need to decide the minimum gpu required for full HD gaming. Maybe it'll help out quaddy in his query as well.

We know that FHD displays can play 720p movies without any problem. How good are they at handling games set at 1280x720? I hope peeps with 24" monitors or FHD LCDs can help out here :)

Yeah but the same is not the case with games.

Try running a game at 720p when you have 19"WS. It will look utter crap.

^^Baaaad. Anything on an lcd at non native resolution will look bad :P.

Second that, especially the el'cheapo TN panels really suck at non-native. My office high quality IPS does not have probs at non-native though.

Are we discussing TN panels??

IMHO It will look bad.

Why take chances when just 2 - 3k more in a good card can help you easily own games at native reso of the LCD

Try and grab that HD4870 at 199 from newegg, that's about 12k INR including KMDs charges.

You'll be sorted for most games at 1920x1080.

best gaming card for 1920x1080 while being cost effective would be the older gtx260,with its more RAM AA would work better than the 4870 512MB.evga had it for 220$ few days back.

for television its all about distance.

I have a FullHD LCD and also 720P LCD tv here and if you sit at more than 2-3 feet away, games at even non native resolution will look ok on LCD TV.

The TV interpolation is lot better usually when you compare it against PC LCDs. But yeah, this is big no no for some FPS shooters.

For text its horrible, but for games and movies, it is tolerable. If you prefer to sit back and play with the controller, its even more fun :P

Try getting an HD4870 or the GTX 260 from ewiz they make most games playble at those settings.

thank you, thank you very much :) I was afraid I had suddenly lost my english language skills. This is the 4th thread where people have been answering exactly what I didn't ask for. :ashamed:

I was not considering the 24" TN panels at all. I am of course mainly interested in 37/40" FHD LCDs, but I suppose the pva 24" monitors would also behave in a similar manner. The larger TVs would obliviously have far better upscaling.

Any particular fps game you have found is problematic in this case? And when you say text is horrible, I suppose that would mean strategy/rpg games with the big HUDs would not be playable? But then otoh, strategy games are less demanding, and would be easier to push to 1920x1080.

Well, I am not thoroughly disappointed by the 720p output of my PS3 on my 20" 2007WFP. However I have no idea about how it looks on a FHD Monitor or TV.

LOL. Only 15" monitors have 1280x720(720P) native resolution and who really wants to watch HD movies on 15" eh? As for games@720p on a 1080P screen, its not gonna be nice :P but you just sit back and enjoy the damn game on a biggie screen(24" FHD) :ohyeah:
