All OS How do phone manufacturers get away with this in 2020?

I was browsing through Amazon and saw A21s and I was surprised to check the price and specs of the phone...
The phone costs 15k+ and still does not have a FHD display.
How do they get away with it in 2020?
I have seen similar pattern in laptops which cost 45k+ and still have 1366x768 display ( or an inferior panel).

Fun part is samsung provides AMOLED display for a price lower than that. I think it is those extra 'camera lenses' they charge premium for. Otherwise I don't see how it has such a high price.

People just don't look at anything but the price. As someone who has been purchasing a lot of equipment for a tech company, I have seen this happening only too often. People come to the store and invariably purchase a laptop with 4gb ram and and hdd, because it is 3000 rupees cheaper.

They still feel that 4gb is enough. And most of are trained to focus on price rather than quality. Jazz over substance. That is the reason why there are so many Membrane keyboards masquerading as 'gaming' keyboards and to top it, there are reviews with people claiming it to be awesome - after having used it for about 10 minutes, and being smitten by the lighting effects.

Like you @Emrebel said, the camera lenses, the megapixel counts are all selling points. Heck even the top tier Ultra succumbed to the 108MP gimmickery...

It needs a shift in attitudes, education, system, and policy. And this won't happen soon in a society like ours. It is a sad state, but something all of us, here should try and correct in some small way at least.

This permeates into every aspect of our lives and work.

In India you can fool anyone, even a high tech literate by selling 1000MP for a sub 20k and he will feel so proudy and out of the world as if he got some NASA telescope in his hand or a James bond gadget. And then showcase his canvas on platform tiktok and insta albeit using filters and crap to win over similar level of idiotic sweethearts and followers.
Thus Samsung or any brand takes this stupidity of Indians into consideration and dump their shit here which we either call a premium vfm or even premium.
And this isnt gonna change for at least 100 more years to come...

Haha yeah I saw that other just the other day while looking for a phone to buy.
Don't forget the hybrid SIM slot with only upto 128GB storage yeeeaaaah!
Or in case of Samsung again only 1080p30fps video recording on the F62 which costs 23999rs ROFL.

I am suprised they are using Snapdragon chipset and not Exynos 9611

This is not only for Indians. Westerners are bigger fools when it comes to tech, if you would have gone out and actually travelled to Europe and us. The level of comfort our parents and older generation have with mobiles within only 4 5 years is unthinkable there.

There capacity to accept and adapt to change is much lower, so is their ability to learn new things.

So please stop saying Indians this and Indians that on all threads.

Common junta is foolish across the world. Less in India compared to the world.


It is only due to the lack of options in India till now that the folks were forced to settle with subpar products at inflated prices. For the smartphone market in particular, Chinese brands have been a godsend and they have increased competition multifold,providing superior products at affordable prices.

Even Samsung and apple have been forced to get off their high horses to compete in India. Long may it continue.

Paper tigers sell! If phone manufacturers want to succeed, fill up spec sheet with big numbers, send free units to those brochure-reading YouTubers and watch the cash register ringing.

OT: Not just phones, goes with cars too. Throw in some features that can entertain buyers while overlooking important aspects like safety.

I dont know about across the world nor manufacturers dump shit there more than any targeted Asian countries and India is surely on top of that.
And you mentioned lack of options, this itself is the fact that we only get trash of options to choose from... choose best trash from bin full of trash!

Just like we pay some lac+ premium for that shit sunroof feature and we feel its something out of the world luxury feature to showoff to our neighbors!
Even if Maruti launches a car with Ferrari engine and some turbo charger, people will start thinking they are fully capable to participate in F1 races and win in one go!

I am not familiar with this phone - but reading through this thread, I can't help but feel that some of you are missing something fundamental in your argument.
Not everyone places the same value as you do on the same specific parameters.

A person with hypermetropia (read as most people above 45 or 50) does not care for FHD on a 6" screen because he/she would be using a text scaling that is large enough to render a high res screen moot.
A better camera that this supposedly has is something he/she would value far more.

Now personally, I love high res screens - but would it be fair for me to assume a buyer purchasing a QHD or God forbid, a FHD computer monitor is an idiot because he/she did not pick a 4K monitor like I did?
Maybe the other person is a gamer and would rather spend the money saved on the monitor on a better GPU - right?

Someone spoke about a lac+ premium for a sunroof - How do you know that the buyer does not live in a city that actually has the weather to derive a value worth well more than a lakh from said sunroof?

Not everyone has the same requirements as you do from the things they purchase - priorities can vary significantly from one person to another
And to assume that another person is foolish/silly to make a purchase decision based on their preferences is ...well...

Your point is valid but if their target demographic was specific group of people then it should be marketed as such
Please note that the aim of this thread is not to bash or make fun of customers but the way the companies present the information.

There are good number of phones with hd+ screen in sub 10k range that I never mentioned here because most of them mention the same in their advertisement material and given the price range I can't complain.
Samsung on the other hand has not provided a single clue for hd+ display for a 22k costing phone in their advertisement material. You have to actually look at specs to confirm the same. They just mention it as sAMOLED display.
My almost now 2 1/2 year old phone which I bought for 12k has FHD+ display.

So yeah I call it bullshit on Samsung's part for giving a hd+ display.

That is true for pretty much any company - No?
Name one firm in the consumer electronics (or any space for that matter) that does not call use some degree of hyperbole for its product placement...Let alone calling out a compromise they made to meet a price point in a marketing campaign.
It is up to the buyer to either check the phone in person , or check specs/ reviews online before making the final purchase decision.

I would guess that a person who does not care for a high res screen would buy it only if it yields say better pictures than a phone in the same price range but with a FHD screen

Now if Samsung were to price a sub FHD phone at par with its flagships - then one could still argue that it is BS
But for a budget segment phone , some compromises will always be made on lieu of something else - and in this case, it is likely the screen.

PS: I do not like Samsung phones one bit - so you can assume the above statement(s) to be free of any fanboism at play :)
