ok so im damn new to this and i have a C2d e6750, now i got the vista sidebar gadget called multimeter where it shows core 1 core 2 and ram usage, core 1 seems to be working fine but core 2 i have seen no activity at all. when does this 2nd core come alive. or is this meter stupid. must say after vista system speed is slow now same as my p4 earlier.

acha thanks a lot for that. which are those apps again id like to gain more info on those mate.

Well...maybe u could try to do run some benchmarking software that utilizez 2 cores, maybe u can then see if ur 2nd core is alive in those vista dials and stuff...:P

Try FutureMark’s 3DMark 06 i heard it is one synthetic benchmark that takes advantage of multi-core...:)

I hope this works..:P...Let us know if i does...:)

Its sad that the only thing you can run on Multi core systems are benchmarks ....
lol :bleh:

No but nowadays lot of them use dual cores , video applications , encodings , multi tasking . :)

i am sure u have various user softwares running in the background
like antivirus etc
just open the task manager, go to the processes for these (antivirus etc)
and set their AFFINITY TO CPU 1 ONLY
this should load the second core

I think, windows does a good job of balancing bitween the cores.

WMP is multithreaded (try playing a HD and see the CPU usage).

Hi

AMD had posted a dual core optimizer software for XP. I do not know about VISTA. Because, I am yet to try it out. So check it out with your configuration or check AMD Site if they have any copy of dual core optimizer for VISTA also.

In fact, I have also observed same with my XP system after I switched over to Dual Core CPU. Then I installed the dual core optimizer. After that, my system is working with dual cores.

Try yourself.

try patching the os w/ the fixes released by ms. see even dual support is not proper!

try the unoffical sp1 or something

if you REALLY want to test whether the two cores are working, just try running two encoding processes and see if the cores are being loaded

Here you go.. all four cores under balanced use while playing a 1080p..

Gotta love WMP11, just install a good codec pack and let it do the rest. I use WMP11 for playing just about everything.. .flv to .ts 1080p.. everything runs buttery smooth. :ohyeah:

hmmm ok im wondering if one of mine is dead at all in the first place lol

any app or something i can play to test 2nd core

wht to install in wmp to see it working. im really gettin worred now. nothing i do is setting the damn 2nd core alive. 1st one goes upto 100% on load.

or do 1 thing, just open up a CPU intensive app (like audio encoding app) and go to task manager>right click on the process>affinity and set the affinity to a single core and see if the core is being used.
