Please post the specs or link to the deal. In general, Toshiba has good build quality, so it depends on the specs of the laptop.

The specs look quite good for the price. But I would not say VFM. Also, looks a bit bland if the picture I see on the link is correct. So, better to check this one personally before taking a decision to buy it.

Toshiba has very good build quality as far as i know. So Could you suggest any other laptop at this price range then?

I think it is important to realise that price reduction usually is accompanied by a proportionate reduction in quality. Now, in the case of desktops, repairs are cheap and even catastrophic failures like motherboard chipset problems do not cost more than a thousand, since a replacement is easy to come by.
This is not the case in laptops. Repairs are expensive, and spares more so. And unlike the desktop, there isn't much alternative if a particular motherboard is in short supply.

So when bargain hunting, one needs to also be wary of facing issues sooner rather than later. It would be recommended to opt for extended warranty when buying cheapo products, just to offset the risk of repair expenses. And, obviously, the cost of extended warranty can be adjusted to get a more solidly built laptop.

for 2k more you have the brilliant msi cr400x---c2d t6500/t660 250gb,14 inches,2gb ddr 2 800 ram,nvidia 8200m + 3 hours 30 minutes of battery life.

why would you buy anything else??

also msi offers you 2 years of warranty and their after sales service is good.

some guy posted it in the market --today i got a pm from amjamvid or something with an osama bin laden avtaar saying he found a p8600 version of the msi laptop. must have been referring to the e400 --meant for business users like dell's vostro line up but cheaper than the competition.

correction i got another pm today from the osama avatar guy:

The dealer told me that since the 2.1 model is no more, he can give me a C2D 2.4 which i accepted. This model comes with a t8300 processor 2.4ghz (45nm HAFNIUM with 3MB cache) and which features virtualization and HD boost. I came to know that this processor is energy efficient too.

On the other hand the t6xxx proccies lack virtualization support and has only 2MB cache. I had paid an amount of Rs.29,250 . I want to know whether the price is correct. Thats y asked mate.

If its possible you can verify and tell me for which i will be thankful to you. Else you can ignore this message.

DEAL OF THE CENTURY IF ITS TRUE!!!!!!!!

Toshiba warranty is handled by HCL in India - heard they are really pathetic in ASS. Check that too.

You sure that the ASS of HCL is pathetic????

All Apple iPods are serviced by HCL in India. Once when I had given my dead iPod Shuffle to the service centre, I got back new one in 2-3 days.

Anyone know who services the Apple Macbooks in India????
Wont be surprised if HCL does that too.

Indian company does not necessarily mean bad service.

dude i do know they service apple macbooks and ipods but when it comes to toshiba or hitachi--yes they service hitachi hdds now--they are terrible.

even worse is the service for their own hardware.

in office we had a hcl server and it had 1gb of ecc server ram.the ram went kaput so we contacted hcl for someone to come and check the server -- no one came for a week. and then someone showed up and charged the network admin 1000rs for the visit and told him the server was out of warranty and a 1gb stick would cost about 7000rs.we got an official quotation from hcl saying the cost of the 1gb ram stick would cost us 9500/-(including service tax.)

for the informed lot here--ecc ram 1gb retails for close to 4000rs.(why is hcl charging the extra 5500?)

we have thrown the intel xeon server out and got an amd opteron 939 based server running and it cost us 10k for the entire machine which is brand new.

just because someone had a good experience with hcl regarding their toshiba or apple product doesnt make them good.

if a laptop comes under international warranty --it should be repairable in any country irrespective of its availability in the said country at no extra charge.
so why is toshiba an exception according to hcl?

For 27k this is a steal as sunny27 says. :D
Never seen a laptop with C2D T-6xxx processor for 27k. Most models will have only a T-4xxx series processors in the 27k price point.

When DELL Inspiron series with core i3 2.26GHz processor are available @ 31k, T6600 based laptops are bound to get a price cut.

Didnt expect it so fast. Dell sells their laptops with T-6xxx series for the same price as before

Now have to wait for the others to drop prices too.
