Hi,
I live in an extremely under-developed part of India. Im facing 4-6 hours of power cut a day for the past week. Before that it was 2-4 hours, for the last ~6 months. The last time I had a even a few days of continuous electricity supply was sometime in September 2009 (I think). Was wondering how many hours of power cuts other TE members are facing.

NiN.

Yup shitty bangalore for the past few weeks has 6 freakin hours... and its not 6 hours at a specific time... it just goes out for an hour or 2 suddenly :@

That really sucks :(.

No power cut in the city I am living in at present, not even for a minute :P

Hmm, April & May were good, no cuts at all, then it started up once the rains slowed down.

This state refuses to have anything nuclear, the activists won't allow more coal stations to come up and insist we live on hydro. Well the cost of this 'green' stance shows its true colours when the rains are irregular and the reservoirs are under fed.

Look at this way, if the cuts get worse, the green's get weakened and ppl finally get their heads out of their backsides and allow more coal fed stations to be built if nuclear is against their religon.

Anything between 2-8 hours a day depending on the season. I got an inverter last year. The sound of the ceiling fan makes this weird noise when running on inverter. It makes me feel dizzy. I don't feel like coming home from work during summers.

I remember in 1991, i was a kid who was helping his parents move this little things into our new house. Back then we used to have like 5hrs of power cut in a week and it used to happen on fridays from 12pm to 5pm. I used to think that was worse. And that it would get better.

Fast forward to 2010 and were having 14-56hrs of power cuts per week. WTF happened? We've actually moved backwards. We should have been moving forward.

I hope they hand over the electricity business to the private companies. We used to pay what? Rs. 16? Rs. 21? for a single call from the cell phone. I never thought i'd own a mobile phone when i was in school. All this fear about MSEB turning private is BS. I can handle the 10/unit for the first five years.

^.... Get Pure Sine Wave Inverter. That noise will be gone forever... ;)

I get ~2hrs of power cut daily (fixed time)... But whenever it rains or there is slight wind, distribution company cuts it for sometime... Also in the name of maintenance there is 6-8 hrs of power cut every few months especially before & after monsoon.... :(

facing around 6-8hrs everyday and about 10-12 hrs in summer from past 20 years or so. frigging place is just outside mumbai btw. damn stupid maharashtra state electricity board. :@

its like we are paying for power cuts too here. bill keeps getting higher and higher every year too. havent seen a bill below 500 bucks in last 5-10 years. :@

In the backward village where I now live I've lost track of the hours. And don't even know since mostly in the office where there is backup. Needless to say I can't risk leaving my PC on 24x7 unattended like I once used to for stuff like downloading/crunching.

2-3 hours -- summation over 7 days.

Usually at night though. After 11 : 00 PM. If the lights do not come after an hour, a gang usually runs to the Vidyut office and creates a scene. Two weeks ago, around 50 guys came below my house at 2 : 00 AM (there is a transformer there) with the line men, and forced them to repair it. Gunda raj...!

There's no definite power cut here in Surat but may happen randomly during the day for some repairs or when there is a heavy downpour. May last for an hour or 2 max.

The worst part of the power cuts in Bangalore are the unpredictability of them. Can never predict when they would take off the power. This is playing havoc with the schedule of so many households early in the morning when kids get ready for school and folks go to office. The cuts are also so frequent that the UPS hardly has any time to charge itself. In my area, we are suffering a minimum of 7 hrs of power cut daily. Coming from a city which never had any major power problems, I fail to understand how can the Karnataka government let Bangalore suffer like this.
