supposedly, Bangalore gets the most power for any city in India,
more than bombay, delhi, calcutta & madras

I wonder where to look to find that sort of info.

and we get powercuts of 6 hrs..
Then there is no way we get the most then is there.

7 hrs power-cut OMG! Things have improved a lot here in Delhi, after the government electricity supply company (DVB = Delhi Vidyut Board) was dissolved and its business distributed between NDPL (North Delhi Power Limited = TATA) and BSES ( = Reliance).

I live in the area to which NDPL supplies, and, things have been decent. At the start of the month, we get a schedule of power-cuts, slipped into the newspaper ... not many power-cuts....if there are, they are mostly because of infrastructure failure (read transformer burn-outs). Electricity things have changed a LOT in Delhi since privatization , touch wood (though we have to pay more now, and tariffs going up each year).

Heh, govt does not want to charge more because thats best way to lose next elections.

Yes, i think we have a winner here :)

Well, even here in chandigarh , power cuts are a rare entity. But haryana suffers really badly though my village which is like 100kms from here used to get a max of 6hrs of power supply in a day at best.Really it's a shame that villages are treated this way.
However, in my village in himachal there is no such problem and there is power outage only if there is a fault.

^^

Gurgaon is the part of the worst of the lot. At corporate buildings, generators supply primary feed and the overhead wires supply backup -- it is that bad...!

What is the unit charge..?

The charges are monstrous.

It has different charge slabs.

0-100 units : Fixed Charge Rs. 30 per month. + Rs.1.45 per unit.
101-200 Units : Fixed Charge Rs. 50 per month. + Rs.3.75 per unit
301-500 units : Fixed Charge Rs. 50 per month. + Rs.5.75 per unit. + Additional 100 paise per unit Expensive energy charge.
Above 500 units : Fixed Charge Rs. 100 per month. + Rs. 6.50 per unit. + Additional 150 paise per unit Expensive energy charge.

And all of the above are subject to 27 paise per unit of additional stabndby charge which is charged under reliability charge.

And everything is Taxed in the end.

So my home with 3 bedrooms, 3 A/Cs, 3 TVs, 2 Computers, fridge, washing machine, oven, electric chimney, water heater easily goes well beyond 500 units..
this..

Thatz becoz you have Reliance power, in Dadar we have tata power, its not very expensive :)
I think you can choose the provider you want now. Many people in our building have shifted to tata , I will soon do it too.

How much cheaper is TATA anyway ?

Shocking to hear this about Bangalore. Its touted as one of India's "A" class cities. Though we get power cuts in Delhi, but the way you guys are describing it absolutely scary.

Even after paying more than what Mumbai guys do, the electricity supply is disgustingly poor. I can understand if there is an outage during rains, an occasional shutdown for maintenance or even an unpredictable overload/trip. Here its just a systemic failure. Regular power cuts (>2 hours/day) for over a year now. On the other hand, I kinda find it sad that more people are buying UPS' to help with the power cuts. Buying UPS when there is a widespread shortage is just being greedy. Its like hoarding commodities, in fact worse since the UPS is not even 100% efficient. UPS' just makes the situation worse for everyone else, much worse for those who cant afford one. Is it that people are retarded or just dont care for the society anymore?

Its the same sorry state of affairs for every other govt service in Bangalore. The road tax is amongst the highest in the country, but still the roads and traffic are fubar. The bus fares are the costliest in India, still the bus services are horrible. The BWSSB has stopped issuing new water connections (till next year). Most of the land owners are afraid to construct houses and new apartments are in limbo. Some of the existing residents are already facing supply issues.

I Roam between chennai and bangalore a lot...

In chennai (perambur) there is no powercut, its long time since we had it...

But in bangalore(karthik Nagar) its 180deg.. powercut every alternate hours.. spared at night...

Gosh..is it that bad in Bangalore? We get to read a lot about Gurgaon power crisis ... Bangalore sounds the same, in this thread. And Bangalore and Gurgaon are supposed to be the cities of the future, isn't it? And btw, I hear Bangalore is having worse traffic crisis than Delhi. If that's really true, then God Save Bangalore, cos driving in Delhi is a nightmare.

^^LOL driving in delhi is a cakewalk compared to driving in Bangalore. As for power, less said the better - when I was in Malleswaram, it used to be one hour a week. Here in Whitefield, its 2-3 hours a day. Simply retarded.

I live in south delhi and power here is supplied by bses rajdhani. Power cuts are very rare in my area.
