5hr to 7hrs a day here in bangalore ,just like others my UPS batteries don't get fully charged.even when there is power the voltage is is around 198v.

Does any one whats the cost of solar PV 40 to 80 watt panel.

Yeah, Bangalore power Cuts are Insane... When it Comes to Power Karnataka has always been Worst... At my native we used to have 6 Hours daily power cuts, Then if it rains then Line Fault, No rain then now power, Winds = More power cuts...!!

Main reason for all these cuts is basically poorly maintained Raichur TPS. A friend of mine visits the station tells me they use cheapest grade coal, The boilers are not maintained Properly, Nothing in order at all.... In a month the power station stops operating at least once or twice...!! Then we have power shortages...!!

To get 24 Hours power in Karnataka, Either you must be very damn lucky...!! Or The Elections should be close by....!!

Lowest grade coal is fine but we're not talking about monthly cuts but daily ones, that to me is clearly insuffucient generating capacity. We need more power stations.

The city has grown, but the infrastrucutre always seems to lag behind.

Exactly as soon as the BMP elections were over the very next day the power cuts started.

None here in Mumbai.

I am actually living in last western suburb of Mumbai. 1 Km north and the area has huge load shedding.

The only instances of power cuts are when electricity workers are doing some work and most of the times we get advanced warning of this power cut.

Couple of times substation caught fire in last 2-3 years during heavy rains. Only during that time power was out for 1 hour or so.

Last major outage of more than 1 hour was on 26/7/2005. Power was gone for good 24 hours back then.

We had some problems couple of years back with short 1-2 minute power outage during rainy season. Turned out to be because of circuit breakers at substation and was resolved after complaint was made to Reliance.

Other than that, we are lucky here in Mumbai. But we do pay through our nose for the electricity.

Thatz becoz you have Reliance power, in Dadar we have tata power, its not very expensive :)

The charges are monstrous.

It has different charge slabs.

0-100 units : Fixed Charge Rs. 30 per month. + Rs.1.45 per unit.

101-200 Units : Fixed Charge Rs. 50 per month. + Rs.3.75 per unit

301-500 units : Fixed Charge Rs. 50 per month. + Rs.5.75 per unit. + Additional 100 paise per unit Expensive energy charge.

Above 500 units : Fixed Charge Rs. 100 per month. + Rs. 6.50 per unit. + Additional 150 paise per unit Expensive energy charge.

And all of the above are subject to 27 paise per unit of additional stabndby charge which is charged under reliability charge.

And everything is Taxed in the end.

So my home with 3 bedrooms, 3 A/Cs, 3 TVs, 2 Computers, fridge, washing machine, oven, electric chimney, water heater easily goes well beyond 500 units..

Ahmedabad FTW!!! btw my area has power cuts frequently at times for 5-10 seconds or sometimes for a couple of hours but that too very rarely.

I've seen three power outages this year, and they were due to major faults in the electricity line. Each time, the electricity was back in an hour or so. Ahmedabad has a very stable electricity supply, there are no fluctuations either, you can use your computer without a UPS or spike guard.
Ahmedabad rocks for uninterrupted & clean power supply. Next to none power cuts and I've been using my PC without a UPS for over a decade now without any problems.

Hopefully I didn't tempt fate there, Friday the 13th :P.

Yeah, thought the rates were higher here and they are for the first 300 units, its more expensive for you with Reliance beyond that.

for a typical LT-2(a)(i)
Fixed Charges per month: For the first KW Rs.20 per KW
For every additional KW Rs.30 per KW
Energy Charges :
- 0-30 units : 185 paise/unit
- 31 to 100 units: 290 paise/unit
- 101 to 200 units: 390 paise/unit
- 201 to 300 units: 460 paise/unit
- 301 to 400 units: 495 paise/unit
- Above 400 units: 590 paise/unit

supposedly, Bangalore gets the most power for any city in India, and we get powercuts of 6 hrs..

guess what, Vidhana soudha runs in crores and crores of power bills every month and they never pay!!!

lol

i can only say that to me:P^^

the OP says he lives in under-developed part of india

so how bout staying in varanasi which has somewhat like 10 hrs of daily power cut:rofl:

2-3 hrs+ if high tension wire fault occurs,etc... and note: these problems occur twice -thrice a week
:P

lol at my situation

quite less compared to what we people having MSEDC are paying for L.T 1 single phase.

Fixed Charges - Rs 30 per connection

0 - 100 units : Rs 2.35 + *

101 - 300 units : Rs 4.25 + *

301 - 500 units : Rs 5.85 + *

Above 501 units : Rs 6.85 + *

* Indhan samayojan aakar (wonder what it means) - this is added to the bill and it differs according to each bill. Maybe depends on no .of units consumed.

They charge some other money on different heads on top of this. Add to this service tax of 10.5%.

Just consuming around 200 - 230 units per month i get a bill of around 800 - 1000. :S

I hope they use CFL bulbs.Infact if all houses in bangalore start using them we will see significant reduction in power consumed,i alone am saving around 500watt/night by using CFL compared to tube light .

The problem is that the electricity department hasn't kept pace with the growth and plus the political intervention makes it much messier. It is not just electricity, even the water supply is falling short of demand. If it were to be privatised, i would assume they would take corrective measures to reduce distribution losses and electricity theft. Why would a private company run a business at a loss? Electricity is a basic necessity. The demand is already there. Surely, a private firm will be able to make a lot of money provided it is willing to put in the necessary work.

Indirapuram, Ghaziabad (adjacent to Noida).

14-15 hour power cuts per day in summer and monsoons.

8-10 hour cutsper day during winters.
