How to clean the inside of a washing machine and keep it that way

A stand is technically not required. I don't have one.
I thought so. But wife insists on having one, so that cleaning the washing machine's bottom area would be easier. But I guess this only works in theory.
Also, our drain pipe setup is somewhat messy which leaks some water back on the floor, so just to prevent the washing machine from coming in contact with drain water, we use the stand.
The stand started rusting slightly now.

Either they forgot or Sammy doesn't do them which surprises me.

Just to be clear the bottom of your machine is completely open?

@lockhrt999 do you remember a rat trap being installed on the bottom when you got your Sammy?
I will recheck tomorrow and will share a pic.

I have both(kinda). I have LG at one house, IFB at another). Btw IFB collaborated with Bosch/Siemens in the past so if IFB's good, then chances are Bosch will also be good.
For LG, I also have good experience. It's just that LG has DD attached to the drum, so it has more power which can make the machine vobble. If they can tune the power delivery, it's equally good. Mine is 2021 model, so dunno if they resolved this in later series.

For IFB, given it's belt driven so functions are comparatively less than LG. But you'll need to check with Bosch by visiting the showroom.

At the end, it all boils down to how's their ASS later on, say, 5-20 years down the line. Most work good till 5 years. The ones who stick with you without burning a hole in your wallet should be your deciding factor.

I've personally used a cheaper version https://www.amazon.in/More-Light-Extra-Detergent-powder/dp/B08DRKZDHT and its good for daily washing machine cleaning.
This detergent is not recommended for a front loader for the same reasons not to buy Presto

Contains lime that won't dissolve easily and end up coating the insides of the machine.

^Wonder how many skin problems are due to cheap detergent like this.

But people think it's OK when it's not :blackeye:

No need to get lured by those damn expensive 'made for front loading washing machine' products. Any detergent does just the cleaning of cloths and this one does that at a much lower price
There's a reason 'made for front load' exists. It won't harm your machine in the long run

Depends on how well you maintain and take care of it.
Simple rules could be like-
1. Avoid cheapo ones. They're cheap for a reason.
2. Make sure to use standard detergent and not mixing TL for FL powder, or unknown brands.
3. Do a regular cleaning on a monthly basis or earlier depending on how often you use it.
4. If you are getting IFB again, they promise 10 years of spares availability, so you should be good. Anything above 15 years is like a bonus in today's world where manufacturers want you to purchase machines as early as possible to maximise profits.

Replacing bearings on an LG

^Watch the play of the drum past the first minute mark. That's the sign of bearings COMPLETELY gone. I thought the spider was gone too but no as you will see later it was as in good shape but the motor was totally wrecked :grumpy:

^Second part

It is important to STOP using the machine especially if it's an LG if you suspect the bearings are gone. You will know because it will make a constant noise when spinning.

Otherwise the misalignment will wreck the motor meaning a much more expensive repair than just bearings. There is no motor warranty applicable if bearings go first.

A 15 yr old LG that was otherwise looked after. The tub is pretty clean. Water quality must be decent as there is no apparent scaling. The spider shows no sign of damage. Just didn't get the bearings looked at in time

Compilation of various problems with fixes.

The one that got me was machine is nosy when running. You think bearings. Noo, the counterweight came loose and was banging around. Total write off:eek:

Good jugaad using epoxy to seal a punctured tub. Major repair bill averted there.

nobody replied
No need of those things. The filter you mentioned (which I'm assuming is the hard water filter that attaches to tap or backside of washing machine inlet) usually seems necessary but it is not needed for everyone and has it's own cons.
No need of other cleaning pouch stuff, you can buy these anywhere if at all u need in future.

The one washing machine accessory/item better to have is a cover.

would you suggest going for a softener filter for hard water? The domestic water supplied in my apartment is close to 1000tds.

Tds is not the same as hardness. You'd need to test specifically for hardness to know whether a softener is required. There are total hardness kits you can find on amazon.

And the "softener filters" these repair guys sell are gimmicks.

Given the amount of scaling on all my taps and white deposits all over the buckets I guess there is good amount of dissolved salts in the water being supplied. I'll try to get that kit and test it. How to address it if there is hardness?
