Hello.

I am staying in a PG nowadays. PG bole tho single room hostel like thing for working men. I guess.

I eat from outside always. Even to have some small snack i have to go outside. :(.
I thought of getting my own 2BHK. Rent is not a issue. But that feels like too much space for me.
and too lazy to pay the bills on time and all. :S. So dont want to change the current living conditions. :).

Any ways to make/cook some food in this limited environment?

I only have a electric hot water kettle that I use to have some hot water or sometimes have cup noodles.

I plan to get some home-food-making-kinda stuff. We have an extra sandwich maker-toast-grille kinda thing back home.
so will bring that here mostly.

Any ways I want to make some noodles. Not the cup, The other instant kinda stuff. Maggi, Top ramen etc.
Any tricks and all? I never stayed in hostels or stuff. So any idea will be appreciated.

Someone told me something called induction stove or something like that. Good?

Any help appreciated.

m-J

We used to have an Induction stove in our Hostel room. Its the best to prepare noodles, soup, Omlet/Half fry, Tea and sometimes ready to cook stuff like Knorrs Manchurian, Pav Bhaaji etc.......

People use that? Cool.

I never even seen one. :(. Until now in Letsbuy.com. Do they eat current that much? Is it too big or something?

When I move, It should be able to put inside a bag or something.

Induction cooker should be the way to go initially.
Later If you want to do some baking you can get a microwave oven.

Yes you can put it in a bag, but its heavy, almost equal to weight of say Iball UPS621 :P ( slightly less than this) But totally depends upon the size you choose

And yes they do suck in a lot of current but not a big deal as some Hostel authorities allow the use of irons, induction stoves and PCs (our did)...

Anyone uses one? Any pointers.

:D

Also one question. Do single working men buy stuff like this? What i mean is, Is it normal/acceptable for a guy living in a single room to buy an induction cooker.

and get few utensils. Sounds too much for me. Thats why asking.

I had Morphy Richards Induction cooker....

As long as you are passionate enough about cooking yourselves and eating, everything is acceptable :) BTW only one utensil is enough with a copper base....

I don't find anything wrong in a single man buying utensils and stuff, and cooking by himself. But from your posts above, it seems you are the lazy type (take no offense please). The most important thing is that you should clean all the utensils and stuff after cooking, and believe me, that really is a PITA. Consider this before making the decision. To me, it seems your current living style suits you best, although I would advise you to cook, eat and clean all by yourself.

Been contemplating to buy an induction cooker/oven for sometime now but washing those utensils after the cooking is a big PITA. Esp. when we spend half a day at work! OTOH a maid who can clean them on a daily basis is fine.

For home deliveries, we prefer to spread some old newspaper and have the food in disposable plates so it is easy to clean the mess. Presently we (as in me and my roomie) use a 1kW electric kettle and a pop-up toaster from Morphy Richards. The kettle takes care of boiling milk for cooking oats/muesli/corn flakes, water for noodles/boiled eggs etc.

@logisto..

Big time lazy. My normal working hours are like ~10+1 hour gym. So 12 hour I spend in my campus. so after a day. I just want to lie down.

But i am fed up with the food. Hate mysore food. Just too bad. I work in LnT. The food inside campus. Yuucck.

@Gannu.

From my Hostel experience of almost 10 years....We used to use the old school type cooking heater (el-cheapo ones)...comes for less than 300 bucks but takes some time to cook.

Maggi is the best and easiest to make. Combine maggi with Bhujia, bread and Tea/soft drink and u have a ownage snack/dinner:)

if u eat non veg then u can easliy make omelet's, Scrambled egg and half fry's in less than 5 mins:)

Apart from these 2, u can get stuff from outside if u have access to a fridge in ur PG. Keep the stuff in ur PG and warm whenever required or eat cold. Cold Pizza's and Chowmein are extremely delicious and contagious :)

Or better...buy a 2BHK and keep a servant for ur chores:) works out amazingly. Cooks from Bihar and Orissa make awesome food

I just want easy stuff like noodles. Regarding cleaning the utensils. I sweep my room every day even though we have a cleaning lady from PG itself who comes for 2 days a week. So yea, I am a neat freak. :D

Order from Dominos inside the Infy campus? The campus is bang opposite to yours and you can collect the food from gate. We used to do this while we were there for a month's orientation and training and the delivery guy had to come to the gate near the CTEA building to deliver the parcel. The watchmen had issues in the beginning, we sorted it later by talking to him and they started letting those delivery boys inside. :P

Just boil the water in kettle and keep the eggs for 5 minutes. For noodles, pour the boiled water in the noodles and let the noodles soak for a while. Contrary to what others say, one need not cook the noodles. This is fine. Just add a bit of butter, 1/2 tsp. of garam masala and the tastemaker. Tastes much better than the usual noodles. We prefer the atta noodles though.

Well. Cant eat Dominos(~200 bucks for single meal) every day noo can I? Already pudgy. :S

Regarding the noodles/egg. Need to try that. :D

beleive me....eggs are as easy as Maggi:) if u always have maggi then u are bound to get maggi phobia (has not happened to me though). So try different things.
Also, another sweet thing that I used to do in Australia; we get the dosa mix (paste ready). Just put this in the frying pan and u have the dosa ready in 2 mins:) this also is an awesome item if u are ok with eating dosa with pickle. Adds variety to ur inventory

I have a friend in ECC, he is in Gundalpetu for an ITC project.
