They will replace the HDD within 5 Working Days.

Just be aware that the replacement drive might not be a brand new drive, u might get a 'Certified Repaired HDD'.

And as rushabh said.. no forms.. all you need to do is take ur HDD to them :)

hey sangam talkies doesnt exist so dont keep it as benchmark...it is being rebuilt...its oposite some school st joseph something

sangam talkies doenst exist but it is the landmark... thats where u'll need to tell the bus guy or the auto guy to drop u off...

isn't that cheating on seagate's part to give me a certified repaired drive?
my drives just 4 months old and its under warranty. i should get a new drive as replacement na? IMO any product which fails in warranty period should be replaced with a brand new product!

^^ there is no such rule. the warranty terms specify that they will give u Either a fresh new product Or a certified repaired HDD.

Seagate will replace the drive without charge with a functionally equivalent replacement product. Seagate may replace a product with a product that was previously used, repaired and tested to meet Seagate specifications. By sending product for replacement, ownership of the original product will be transferred to Seagate. Seagate will not return original drives to consumers. Data recovery is not covered under this warranty and is not part of the repair or exchange process. If you would like data recovery performed on your drive, it is available from Seagate as a separate service for an additional charge. Seagate warrants that repaired or replaced products are covered for the greater of either the remainder of the original product warranty or 90 days.

 US companes are biggest chor!! this is totally against consumers who pay for a good drive and get some faulty repaired drive in return. :@

what happens if the replacement drive conks off in a month or two?
i'll get another refurbished drive then?:(

I guess we have no choice here, because thats how it works :(

arre dont worry..they usually give brand new drives but some times if they dont have a stock or u r HDD has some minor problem they give a certified repaired HDD..and even the repaired HDDs are not bad ive benn using one for more than a year works like a new one..

by da way samsung guys always replace my HDD with a brand new one ..

Look on the bright side...they replace it with a higher capacity drive.

They replaced my 80GB with a 160GB (ST3160811AS) :D like so many be4 me.

Don't think samsung/hitachi/WD/etc, do that.

Most repaired HDDs if I understand correctly are where the logic board has developed a fault. You cannot repair a damaged platter. In such repairable cases, the drive will function properly when the logic board has been replaced. Since that takes time, the user is given a new/certified repaired replacement drive.

I don't have statistics but I'm guessing the no.of cases of this kind of problem must be low. Mostly, HDD failures are due to the head crashing onto the platter. In such a case also, I would imagine that they would rescue the logic boards and re-use them in cases where the logic board has failed :P .

But yes, it might bother people that they are getting a repaired HDD. The major difference I see is that the motor and bearing would've have already undergone some wear due to usage. But no one has any idea about whether the wear would actually increase the chances of failure.

Will only happen near end of life of that capacity. 500GB is still going strong these days. 1TB...don't think this would ever happen for long.
