Hello,

Is the HP Dm1z available in India? Specifically in New Delhi? If so, where? Also, can I order it online? What is the price?

Any better lightweight laptops at the same pice?

Thanks
Crazysah

Sony Vaio Fusion has gone down to 23500 now :) (MRP gone down from 26990 to 24990 this week)

So please check

I would avoid Sony's offerings for the following reasons:-

[1] Windows 7 starter as compared to the HP DM1z's Windows 7 Home basic 64bit

[2] The Sony Vaio has a 3 cell battery as compared to the HP DM1z's 6 cell 55Whr battery

[3] In all the benchmarks conducted by various online technology sites Sony Vaio has had the poorest CPU, GPU, Memory and Harddrive scores and the HP DM1z is the fastest ultraportable of the lot

[4] The Sony Vaio has a very glossy screen compared to the HP DM1z's semi matte and glossy screen - result: the display is better in the HP Dm1z

[5] THe Sony Vaio comes with a 5400rpm drive compared to the HP DM1z's 7200 rpm drive -- this translates to better hard drive performance in the HP DM1z

The only advantage the Sony Vaio has is that it comes in 3 shades silver, pink and lime green compared to the HP's black and matte silver finish. The HP DM1z is clearly worth the extra money.

Excellent summary, sunny, exactly my thoughts. The battery is just pathetic, and completely mocks the whole point of an ultraportable.

One option is the Asus 1215B. Sadly only the C50 version is available in India now (feel free to correct me, anyone), which costs Rs. 20k. Depending on your usage, the E-350 is offers about 50% faster performance, but C50 is good enough for casual internet use. The 1215B has a greater battery life, a larger 12.1" screen and is cheaper, but slightly more bulky. Also, Asus laptops are known to be very reliable - second only to Lenovo. HP, not quite, but it does have a broader support network in India. When the E-350 1215B releases in India, I am sure it will be around the same price as the HP dm1, and that will be an interesting competition.

^^^It is the same thing---Dm1-3000 series is the family and - 3014au is the model sold in India. Other regions have 3gb of ram and Windows 7 home premium, apart from these minor changes the hardware is the same and so are the drivers.

In India, HP sells the DM1z bundled with Windows 7 Home basic 64 bit only.

So, is it still worth it then if it only comes with Windows 7 Home basic 64 bit?

^^Yes - it is worth it. There is nothing wrong with windows 7 home basic. Although I've upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Professional.

You can get a mouse if you want. You don't need external speakers because the speakers on the laptop are extremely powerful and clear. You could also go for an external usb dvd writer.
