@PiXeLpUsHeR
Well I had a chance to use Magic for good 10-15 days. That made me pull trigger on this one
saurik's site and its content is what actually contributed to final decision to dive in.
I got the Hero for slightly more than 30k inclusive of shipping and everything.

How easy is it to get your app to run on the phone without getting a developer phone. (i.e putting a retail phone in developer mode). Also when is Android going to get 16M color support.
Its almost time I replaced my stop gap 5800 and will probably get a new phone next month end or so (or probably longer depending on the availability of the phones) and I am thoroughly confused my the choices. There's the Omnia HD, iPhone 3GS and the Hero as well as some new Omnia branded WinMo devices coming into the market this year.
The Omnia HD is the snappiest of the lot considering that even with background processes running, it is way faster than the iPhone 3G in a comparison vid I have seen and I don't think even Hero would stack up to that with a 528MHz processor considering that HTC Magic had no chance in hell to keep up with it. I guess nothing could beat Symbian on a overdose of processing power and memory. But at the same time Symbian 9.4 app lib is not maturing as much as for its predecessors. Also ease of development is thoroughly lacking compared to WinMo and iPhone.
That leaves Android, iPhone 3GS and WinMo. Although iPhone has infinitely improved on its shortcomings with the 3GS upgrade, there are several important things still missing. As for Android and Win Mo one one of main upsets is the lack of support for 16M color displays. Other than that the non-standard and somewhat lowish 480x320 resolution that plagues both the Android phones as well as the iPhone 3GS are also kind of deal upsetting flaws.
