btw if u have some time could u please reply to my pm :ashamed:

Completely agree, that's the main reason I'm still sticking with it.

I dont have any PM from you :S

@PiXeLpUsHeR

Well I had a chance to use Magic for good 10-15 days. That made me pull trigger on this one :P

saurik's site and its content is what actually contributed to final decision to dive in.

I got the Hero for slightly more than 30k inclusive of shipping and everything.

I hope you enjoy the phone, it is really a lot of fun. :)

Android is for future. It is WM minus its negativities :D

I am gonna shift to that soon once I get over with my WM obsession. Right now its keeping me too much busy.

It's not as sexy as your Hero, but here is my G1 running modded Hero as well :P

not too bad, the ROM is such a mix of many different other ROM features that it has been extremely modded. The Launcher Rosie is main interface and is a lot less laggy now than the first few iterations of mods. I would say there are at least 3-5 different devs that have their own versions of the Hero ROM to try out ;)

Saw several vid's of the Hero myself and its interesting. btw hows the App scene for Android? Anyone tried their hand at android development. How easy is it to get your app to run on the phone without getting a developer phone. (i.e putting a retail phone in developer mode). Also when is Android going to get 16M color support.

Its almost time I replaced my stop gap 5800 and will probably get a new phone next month end or so (or probably longer depending on the availability of the phones) and I am thoroughly confused my the choices. There's the Omnia HD, iPhone 3GS and the Hero as well as some new Omnia branded WinMo devices coming into the market this year.

The Omnia HD is the snappiest of the lot considering that even with background processes running, it is way faster than the iPhone 3G in a comparison vid I have seen and I don't think even Hero would stack up to that with a 528MHz processor considering that HTC Magic had no chance in hell to keep up with it. I guess nothing could beat Symbian on a overdose of processing power and memory. But at the same time Symbian 9.4 app lib is not maturing as much as for its predecessors. Also ease of development is thoroughly lacking compared to WinMo and iPhone.

That leaves Android, iPhone 3GS and WinMo. Although iPhone has infinitely improved on its shortcomings with the 3GS upgrade, there are several important things still missing. As for Android and Win Mo one one of main upsets is the lack of support for 16M color displays. Other than that the non-standard and somewhat lowish 480x320 resolution that plagues both the Android phones as well as the iPhone 3GS are also kind of deal upsetting flaws.

I have not developed any apps... (don't know how... but wanna learn) but I am in the process of developing skins. I would love to find someone that would be interested in developing apps with me I have a couple of great ideas and can do the graphic end of it.

Most of the custom ROM's out there are based off of the cupcake (1.5) dev phone version, or at least include some of it. It seems that many of the modded ROM's are a cross between the best features of ION, ROGERS, HTC CUPCAKE and HERO plus a little new dev work added in the mix.

I would say it is a really good time to get involved in Android delopment for apps as I think it is still a chance to get involved while the platform is still pretty young. Especially great is the fact that this is open source and once can get the source and start devoping for it at any time by downloading it from Google with all instructions you need to get of fthe ground running.

AFAIK, anyone having a decent knowledge of Java can easily get started with development for Android.
