Done..Done And Done.....still the same..... now dvdstore says he checks the modem....... this is not even getting detected.....

If the device is getting detected as storage device and if the light is blinking on the modem (any color) that means that the device is detected.....

After detected as CD-drive, go to CD-Drive, run Data-Card.exe or Data-Card64.exe(if your OS is 64bit) and it will convert your device to Modem and install the drivers

i just spoke to dvdstore...he says he will replace is there is any issue.....so that nice ..i guess

but i was wondering if this is not a faulty modem issue and can be resolved without sending it back...... then it would be great

try this

The version of Mobile Partner which comes inside the modem is outdated and is known to give issues. Uninstall Mobile Partner and the driver of UMG 1831 via device manager with ur modem plugged . Restart your PC

Keep the modem plugged in
Download and install this first.
http://www.dc-files.com/files/huawei/modems/UMG1831/dashboard/Mobile_Partner_UTPS11.302.09.00.03.zip

Start Mobile Partner
Go to Options > Choose Device

UMG 1831 should be listed. This worked for a fellow TE member

This is the latest version of Mobile partner, and it supports voice and video calls for UMG1831.

This version has been personally tested by me and works without any problem. But of course I prefer MDMA.

To enable sending USSD command from Mobile partner: Open file DeviceInfo.xml (located at Mobile partner installation folder), locate the section

<UssdUnEncode>

and add this line

<item devicename="UMG1831"></item>

in the list. Save and exit. Now you can send USSd code from Mobile partner.

^^ Tried this with E122. Could not find any option to send USSD commands. Went to Text and created a new SMS and sent it to *112# but got no reply.....
Anyone has tried this with E122? BTW I also preder MDMA for USSD.

Today I received the modem in noon.. Speed is good working properly. worked out of the box in my Ubuntu 10.10 box. Using aircel 2g GPRS (Rs.98/month), giving a download speed of 23KBPS..

Tried to use TATADOCOMO 3g, but didn't work.. my be some settings were wrong..

Recently Aircel stopped its 98/month unlimited plan.

So, finally I purchased the AWESOME BSNL 3g 6months unlimited plan for Rs.4200 (plus Rs.301 for 6months SIM validity)..

I am getting a download speed of ~300KiB/s and upload speed of ~180KiB/s..

Its awesome!!! The data-card is performing extremely well.

@dvdstore... the problem is resolved ....it seems the mobile partner in the modem is outdated and the new one did the trick....

Huawei UMG 1831 ( 21.6Mbps ) is a good choice. but do not upgrade the FW of this card - 11.826.03.01.420 is enough for good performances.

Don't upgrade to 11.831.05.01.420 as some users (including my friend) are facing problems, after upgrading to this version.

And also, never upgrade with FW of K4505 ( 11.860.02.04.11 ) to make it 28.8Mbps compatible. The card will become useless.

Use Mobile Partner ( 16.001.06.01.500 ) or MDMA as application SW.

In Windows 7, the device is detected as a mobile Broadband device, it will show all information including network, roaming partner( if roaming) and signal strength without any application software. You don't even need to create any dial up connection for making a connection. Just provide APN once when Windows asks for it and you are good to go.

You can try, Install it only on your pc and not on the device. You can then try accessing E122.
