I find nothing objectionable in buying used, good condition goods, especially if they are in warranty. I mean someone is selling a core 2 duo processor which is one year old for 3K when a new one costs 5k, why shouldn't I buy it? The same goes for a car. I can buy a 2007 Toyota Corolla for 7 lakhs when a new one costs 13.5 lakhs here, what's wrong with that? But I am made fun of by my friends and my family. They say a used thing is a used thing. They say the previous owner most probably abused the thing, there must be something wrong, that's why he must be selling it.

Am I alone? Have you got friends/family like that? What is your answer to them?

Abhi.

Don't pay heed to others. Buying a good deal always requires patience and luck. Others may be just jealous that you are getting as new pieces in so low prices.

Family friends may have their views, but the money finally has to origin in YOUR pocket. So don't worry, and keep up the habit!

I would rather make fun of folks like you for whom the opinion of other people seems to matter so much :P
If you are happy with your purchase, why bother listening to others?

Most of us here buy used products. And yes atleast friends would be jealous knowing the price you bought a particular product for, and when they get to know that its used, they find a way to hit back, just my opinion. Ofcourse my family do not believe in used products as well, but they never stop me from buying a used product. Afterall its me who knows my bank balance at the end of the day

Used goods are good as long as you don't create threads wondering whether there are other people like you who think that they should reply in your thread that using used goods is good.. phew...

PS: No offense, getting bored in office. :P

As long as it's not in contact with body parts, it's fine. This obviously means clothing, accessories (internal and external), vehicles, linen and footwear are out (personally). Everything else is fine. A lot of us have struck good deals in the used market, so it's no stigma.

And no, nobody I know minds the fact that we get our stuff used. I know someone who bought a single piece of audio equipment used, for 3000 Euros (count 'em). It cost 11500 Euro brand new, so it's a pretty good deal. And it's just one small box with some electronic bits inside.

used processors and used corollas are fine

On the other hand, used motherboards, esp > 3 years and used ikons - caveat emptor :P

Well, it's not like I feel bad about being made fun of(anyways it's not serious, they just tease me), I just wanted to know if your folks find it objectionable or not. :bleh:

anyways, it's my money and I will decide how I will spend it.

make sure you do not buy anything 2nd hand from these kind of people..it just reflects that these people would sell their stuff only when something is wrong! :cool2:

I had the same thing going with my folks. They used to always discourage me buying second hand stuff:)...But nowadays they are quite happy about it as I don't spend so much money on gadgets as I sell off old stuff and buy second hand also... saves a lot of money and helps u dispose the stuff u no longer use:)

Don't listen to others... Be happy as the moolah u save can be invested in getting more gadgets:):)

There's nothing against getting used goods in my book. A good deal is a good deal, no matter what the conditions and if the deal is made, it's made for good reasons. Personally, I don't prefer used goods, but then, my first computer was a used one. An office was being dissolved and my dad managed to get one at a cheap price. I had a great run on it for 5 years, man! Oh wait, only my CPU is new. You could say I'm still using it.

As for the people making fun of you , I know how it feels. Nothing tragic, but it gets very annoying. You'll just have to learn to shut them up or deal with it.

Dude, this happens to all of us, Even my ad used to scold me & one fine day he got mad @ me & told me that " my son here might even get his wife in second hand " ( which he didn literally mean ) Don't pay heed to others, coz this aint anything bout life or some serious issues which u or we need elders advice. cause we Techies are found of these lousy things :P

Dude,yo dad really said dat?!!!! and @cool_dude do not feel bad.,Its infact the best way, from my perspective....:cool2:
I used to sell my PC games and buy the used ones. I have saved my dad's money a lot by this.,:ohyeah:

LOL who gives a sh*t! My folks don't even bother what I used to buy when I was dependent on them.

Second hand stuff so long as it has warranty. :P

make a excel file of the stuff you buy used - log the buying price and the price of the same thing in 'new'. at the end of the year - remove printout and distribute  let everyone see the % of savings. then they can be :O and you can :)

..or the seller is looking to subsidise his next new purchase ;)

It actually takes more work to do that (sell) and hunt for used deals (buy) than to buy new (incld hunting for price), if you account for time.

..or does it ?

More efficient sites to sell such would defnitely cut that down. ebay was supposed to be one such site but it got nowhere.

Does anyone sell used stuf on ebay in india ?

What do you do with you rold stuff then ? --use it till its dead then dump.

No one wants to buy without warranty.

well in my case , it has been always opposite , whatever i have bought second hand ,it has worked like charm and other new 1s had to go for service centres and all, lucky me  , i will say there is no harm and you should be bold enough to stand on your place and be little aggressive ,believe me ,people start getting doubts about their new 1s as it was worth that extra mulaaahhh or not :bleh:, just always do thorough reserch and be pateint while buying second hand products ,ALL THE BEST
