I Give Up. Windows Is Proof That People Are Too Stupid To Use Computers.

And too stupid or dishonest to report Microsoft Windows as the defective disaster that it is. If it were any other type of product it would have banned from every country in the world long ago. The BBC reports the latest Windows Conficker worm outbreak in typical "oh no big deal" fashion, does not identify this as a Windows worm until several paragraphs into the article, quotes industry security vendors as though they were actually worth listening to and not useless weasels, and then blames end users: "The worm is spreading through low security networks, memory sticks, and PCs without current security updates...

""Microsoft did a good job of updating people's home computers, but the virus continues to infect business who have ignored the patch update...

""Of course, the real problem is that people haven't patched their software," he added.

Please excuse me while I go kick something. Of COURSE it's the users' fault. They're still using this most expensive piece of defective crapware in the entire solar system. But its incurable defects are not their fault. (We need to give up the notion that such computer users can be rescued by Linux-- we don't WANT them using Linux. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof, because fools are ingenious".)

t's WINDOWS Malware, NOT Computer Malware

The US and British military are getting clobbered by WINDOWS malware. Not computer malware- WINDOWS malware. Dear journalists, do please take note of this. It is a fact. It is a fact that matters. I know you hate facts and research, so here it is on a platter. You're welcome. Even Wired, which should know better, delivered this piece of prime suckage:

"The Defense Department's geeks are spooked by a rapidly spreading worm crawling across their networks. So they've suspended the use of so-called thumb drives, CDs, flash media cards, and all other removable data storage devices from their nets, to try to keep the worm from multiplying any further" Not once does this article say "Windows" or "Microsoft". We had great fun with the Royal Navy putting Windows on submarines mere weeks ago. But it's not funny anymore:

"The Ministry of Defence confirmed today that it has suffered virus infections which have shut down "a small number" of MoD systems, most notably including admin networks aboard Royal Navy warships." Of course they downplay it, oh no worries, nothing important, run along now. After all, the nuclear warheads are current with SP4, or something equally idiotic. And once again nobody utters the forbidden word "Windows."

Fighter Planes Grounded By Unimportant, Meaningless Infestation

This one is a real knee-slapper: "French fighter planes were unable to take off after military computers were infected by a computer virus...The aircraft were unable to download their flight plans after databases were infected by a Microsoft virus they had already been warned about several months beforehand."

And once again the problem is minimized: "It affected exchanges of information but no information was lost. It was a security problem we had already simulated." At the least the reporter was bold enough to say "Microsoft" and "Windows." But sadly, once again, the end users were blamed.

yeah.I am expecting too much.I know here ,it is a gamers community who hates Linux.Still :)

Nobody hates Linux. We just love games. For your information, not everybody buys a PC for what functionality you require. Contrary to your beliefs, most of the people buy PCs for their own needs. Be that gaming, programming or whatever.

It just struck me, Windows haters are more obnoxious and draconian in their beliefs than Linux haters (are their any :S ?).

 Something must be very wrong with your head in that you have to hate something in order to love Linux.

maybe the writers a lunatic. if the same thing had happened to linux or osX instead of windows would she be saying the same thing? i guess not being a linux fanboi.....

goodness...that's sheer vitriol

At the risk of inviting a flame war, and am sorry to say this Praka, but Linux (any distribution ) is not yet suitable or mature for desktop usage

it fits your needs only if you are

A) an ol' grandma (whose geek grandson configured her (plug-in random wild animal here)- Ubuntu for her e-mail/browsing needs

OR

B) A hard core geek devoid of any social life whose life revolves around googling for information and editing a random conf file everytime anything new needs to be done with the system

Windows may have its flaws but it's windows (either in legal or ahem form) that is largely responsible for the widespread usage of personal computers in a home environment (or offices too)

Err why can't the author just shut up and mind his own business . People will use what they like as long as it gets their job done. End of story :P.

PS: This is from a person whose home network/internet gateway/media sharing, in short anything that distributed systems need is handled by Linux

huh.. If any other OS is as popular as Windows, it would have just as huge a malware base as any. Linux, Mac OS etc do not malware only because the malware writers do not find it worthwhile to spend time on it when the platform itself does not have enough acceptance. Don't for an instant think that these other OS's are un-hackable. What one can make, other can always break.

Leopard had security vulnerabilities that were fixed after it was released.

Serious Security Vulnerabilty In Apple OS X Leopard - Security Fix

Similarly Linux has its security flaws too if we care to check on Google.

So its only a matter of putting enough time for finding and exploiting the flaws which you won't do if the platform is not popular enough.

completely disagrees. malwares ,worms are what Linux can expect.virus is patented by ugly window$.

But That's Just My Opinion. I Could Be Wrong.

what if ,MS creates a powerful anti-virus and reduces virus, worm etc .

Still they would end up in a court and may face EU antitrust lawsuit in millions of dollars[ remember WMP ]

Yes, that's just your opinion and you are wrong.

Though it may seem like its cannot be done due the architecture of the OS, hackers/crackers always found a way to break into supposedly un-breakable systems and security measures. The same would be the case with malware writers. Time and again, we have seen unbreakable security measures on various platforms and devices being broken into. As I said before, its just a matter of putting enough effort.

There's no such thing as a completely secure system. Its just a myth just like Santa Claus.
